‘Don’t Go Too Crazy!’ Trump Warns ‘Cost-Cutting’ Republicans ‘You Still Have To Get Reelected’ as He Cheers Tillis Drop-Out

President Donald Trump cheered the news that a fellow Republican will not seek reelection, then warned “cost-cutting” members of the GOP — which he said he is “one of” — to remember they still need to be reelected, the latest entries in his ongoing feuds with some Republicans over the Big Beautiful Bill.

In a pair of Truth Social posts on Sunday, Trump first cheered the news that Sen. Thom Tillis of North Carolina will not be seeking reelection. Tillis made the announcement just hours after Trump lambasted him in a different social media post earlier in the day.

“Great News! ‘Senator’ Thom Tillis will not be seeking reelection,” Trump wrote of the Republican, putting the title “Senator’ in scare quotes.

In that same earlier social media post trashing Tillis, Trump also laid into Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, who is among those opponents who feels the Big Beautiful Bill does not adequately cut costs and will increase the deficit, as he said again in a post on X Sunday.

No doubt with Paul in mind, among others, Trump addressed the cost-cutters in the party.

“For all cost cutting Republicans, of which I am one, REMEMBER, you still have to get reelected,” he wrote. “Don’t go too crazy! We will make it all up, times 10, with GROWTH, more than ever before.”

The simple warning can be seen both as a reference to dissatisfaction among voters over dramatic cuts, as Democrats have said, and as subtle warning that Trump himself can interfere with their reelections if they go too far in opposing his bill.

In addition to effectively driving Tillis out of the next Senate race in North Carolina, Trump’s massive political operation has formed a new Super PAC specifically aimed at unseating another Republican up for reelection, Rep. Thomas Massie, who like Sen. Paul, represents Kentucky.
