CNN’s Camerota Literally Rips Up GQ Article Criticizing Maggie Haberman On-Air

Maggie Haberman appeared on CNN’s New Day this morning to discuss Michael Wolff’s explosive new expose on the Trump administration — a book she has been fiercely critical of for its alleged inaccuracies and exaggerations.

And towards the end of the interview (around the 7:30 mark), New Day co-host Alisyn Camerota asked the New York Times reporter about a GQ article, penned by Drew Magary, which hailed Wolff for exploiting the Trump White House while slamming “access merchants” like Haberman.

Magary wrote:

It’s clear to me that Haberman and the like aren’t saving up their chits for just the EXACT right time to bring this Administration down. No, the only end goal of their access is continued access, to preserve it indefinitely so that the copy spigot never gets shut off.

“I resent this on your behalf,” Camerota said, as Haberman laughed. “When I read this it really ticked me off. You don’t pull your punches. What is he talking about?!”

“It’s negativity as a proxy for insight, by somebody who either doesn’t know or hasn’t done the job,” co-host Chris Cuomo added. “There is an art to what we do in coverage as well. You have to maintain relationships.”

Haberman defended her coverage of the president as “rigorous and aggressive and tough,” and noted that she helped break a number of Trump-Russia stories.

That defense prompted Camerota to literally rip up her print-out of the GQ article, declaring “I don’t like that.”

Earlier in the interview, Haberman dumped on Wolff for inaccuracies throughout his book, and how he spent his time “sucking up for access.”

She also noted that Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner “are very pleased” by the book, thanks to its public crucifixion of nemesis Steve Bannon.
