DC Residents Welcome Mike Pence to Neighborhood by Flying Pride Flags

pride-flagseditedPrior to moving into the Vice-President’s mansion in January, VP-elect Mike Pence is renting a house in Washington, DC where he will stay whenever he’s in the DC-area.

Well, it appears some of his new neighbors have come up with a unique way to welcome the incoming Veep to the neighborhood while making a political statement.

According to WJLA, roughly a half-dozen homes are flying or hanging pride flags. This is in response to Pence’s reputation as being anti-LGBT.

[Ilse] Heintzen has gay and lesbian friends, so when one neighbor suggested ordering a pride flag, she and others asked for their own.

“I have no idea what [the Vice-President Elect] will think about, but I hope he will change his mind.”

There are roughly a half-dozen pride flags hanging on the block, and more are on the way.

“This is one way that I can show my disagreement,” said Heintzen.

Pence was Governor of Indiana when the state passed a religious freedom law that provided protection to businesses to refuse service to those in the LGBT community. There are also the questions surrounding his past support for the controversial practice of conversion therapy.
