Anderson Cooper went on a lengthy monologue in his Tuesday night show pointing out President Donald Trump’s hypocrisy in not sufficiently calling-out the threat of Russia election tampering, but demanding Democrats unequivocally call-out the threat of “radical Islamic terror.”
In a tweet today, Trump defended his response to the Kremlin’s attack on the US electoral system by saying, “I have been much tougher on Russia than Obama, just look at the facts. Total Fake News!”
Cooper said the following in response to the president defending his stance on Russia:
“President Obama kept quieter than perhaps he should have out of concern he’d affect the outcome… [but] the instances are vanishingly rare of this president simply saying what his own intelligence community says, that Russia interfered in the last election and is still at it now — which is strange, when you consider how much weight the president and, before that, candidate Trump put on naming your adversary.”
The CNN host then played a montage of Trump repeatedly bashing both Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, and Democrats in general for not saying the words “radical Islamic terrorism.”
“To solve a problem, you have to able to say what the problem is — or at least say the name… The name is there, which is radical Islamic terror,” Trump said in a clip from his presidential campaign.
“Words to remember,” quipped Cooper.
