Axelrod: Would Have Been a ‘Healing Moment’ If Dems Featured Widows of Murdered Cops Too
David Axelrod said that it was good to hear the mothers of victims of gun/police violence speaking tonight, but they should have heard from widows of slain cops too.
The mothers of Trayvon Martin, Eric Garner, Sandra Bland, and others appeared on stage together at the DNC to speak about fighting to stop the bleeding and about their support for Hillary Clinton.
On CNN, Michael Smerconish said the Democrats should have featured at least one widow of a fallen officer.
Axelrod agreed, calling it a “missed opportunity.”
“The families of police officers grieve for their losses as well,” he said, “and it would have been a healing moment to get everyone on the same stage to say stop the violence.”
Axelrod also tweeted his sentiments:
Mothers of Movement were incredibly moving, but it would have been powerful to have included widows of fallen police officers. #DNCinPHL
