Bernie Sanders Jumps Up To Leave — Reams ABC’s Jon Karl For ‘Nonsense’ AOC-Chuck Schumer Question

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) stood up from his chair and attempted to cut an interview with ABC’s Jonathan Karl short on Sunday when asked if Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez should run for Senate in New York in three years.

Karl did not directly ask Sanders if he believed Ocasio-Cortez should challenge Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer. But the long-serving and embattled Democrat is up for reelection in 2028.

Sanders was in no mood to weigh in on that race or backlash against Schumer since the New York Democrat angered members of his party by helping Republicans pass a Trump-backed funding bill earlier this month.

On ABC’s This Week, Sanders sat down with Karl to discuss his multi-day tour of the West with Ocasio-Cortez and laid endless praise on her:

In the House of Representatives, you have dozens and dozens of strong, smart, disciplined, hardworking young people in the progressive caucus. And way back when, when I first came to the Congress in the House. I helped form the Progressive Corps because we had five people at that time. Now they got close to 100. So you got a whole lot of good people. Alexandria is extraordinary. I am so impressed by her work in Congress and her, just she inspires young people all over the country.

Karl asked, “Would you like to see her join you in the Senate?”

Sanders replied, “Right now we have, as I said, just a whole lot of people in the Congress.”

The senator got up from his chair and said, “Okay, Jonathan, thanks.”

Karl tried to save the interview and said, “Wait, I got one more. I got one more. This is important.”

Sanders fired back, “No, you want to do nonsense? Do nonsense. I don’t want to talk about inside-the-beltway stuff.”

Karl was able to corral Sanders back to his seat to ask the senator if he had any future presidential aspirations.

Sanders said, “Right now, I’m Vermont Senator, that’s what I do, and I’m very happy to do it. I am 83 years of age, and I’m tired.”
