Bernie Sanders sat down with Stephen Colbert Thursday night and was asked what the host should asked Hillary Clinton, who will appear on The Late Show later this month, particularly about the “ponies” Clinton alleged Sanders promised during the election.
The Vermont Senator decided to take the high road.
“We have got to think going forward and I would like for her to join us in the Fight for 15 and a Medicare-for-all single payer system, in taking on the fossil fuel industry so we transform our energy system away from fossil fuel and move toward sustainable energy,” he urged his formal rival. “In other words, we need her help going forward. Let’s not keep arguing about 2016. Let’s get together, take on Trump’s desire to divide us up. Let’s go forward with a progressive agenda. Ask her if she’ll do that.”
In an excerpt of her new book What Happened, Clinton went after Sanders for for “impugning” her character during the primary, which she believed ultimately helped Donald Trump win in the election and accused him of “disrupting” the Democratic Party.
Thursday night on MSNBC, Sanders mocked the suggestion that anyone would think that he “stole all of Hillary Clinton’s ideas” during the campaign.
