CNN Anchors Express Skepticism over Kanye’s Apology in Hebrew: ‘He Has an Upcoming Album!’

CNN anchors Brianna Keilar and Jessica Dean were openly skeptical of Kanye West’s social media post offering an apology to the Jewish community in Hebrew, calling the timing suspicious because of the release of his new album.

The rapper, who legally changed his name to Ye, has found himself in countless headlines over the past few years for his outlandish and controversial comments, many of which have been anti-Semitic. One of the most notable was an October 2022 tweet in which he declared that when he woke up the next day he would be “going death con 3 On JEWISH PEOPLE.” Twitter deleted the tweet and locked his account, but since Elon Musk took over, he has since allowed West back on the platform.

On Tuesday, West posted a graphic that was a block of text in Hebrew on both Instagram (where he’s had a similarly rocky history of suspensions) and The Platform Formerly Known as Twitter.

Translated into English, West’s post read:

I sincerely apologize to the Jewish community for any unintended outburst caused by my words or actions. It was not my intention to hurt or demean, and I deeply regret any pain I may have caused. I am committed to starting with myself and learning from this experience to ensure greater sensitivity and understanding in the future. Your forgiveness is important to me, and I am committed to making amends and promoting unity.

Keilar introduced the segment and noted that it was “unclear what prompted” West’s apology after his years of anti-Semitic comments, which included “openly praising Hitler” during an interview with Alex Jones last year. And even just earlier this month, West was again praising Adolf Hitler during a shockingly anti-Semitic rant at a listening party for his new album with Ty Dolla $ign.

“We’ve heard apologies from him before,” said Keilar, “which is probably why so many people are skeptical.”

CNN entertainment correspondent Elizabeth Wagmeister replied that this was “certainly the most outward apology that we’ve seen” from West, but it was “too soon to tell” how sincere he was, especially in light of that “anti-Semitic tirade” at the album listening party a few weeks ago.

“And interesting that he has an upcoming album,” said Dean.

“You don’t say?” Keilar said with a sarcastic tone.

“Worth noting!” replied Dean.
