Fox & Friends Defends Trump Saying He Would Be a Dictator: ‘Incredible’ How He Controls the Media
Fox & Friends went into a gushing defense of Donald Trump from critics who’ve argued that the former president would act like a dictator if reelected in 2024.
The Fox morning show started its third hour on Wednesday by looking at the recent media coverage that has accused Trump of being a threat to democracy. Most of the coverage Fox aired from other networks had to do with former House Republican Conference chairwoman Liz Cheney, who has drawn a great deal of attention with her new memoir warning that America will be “sleepwalking into a dictatorship” if Trump regains power.
Brian Kilmeade chose not to address the part of Cheney’s book where she claims that he tried to get her to make nice with Trump amid her very public break with the ex-president. Instead, he declared Cheney’s alarmism “crazy” while leaping into a defense of Trump’s actions in office.
“That is not a dictatorship!” Kilmeade exclaimed.
Ainsley Earhardt followed up by complaining that President Joe Biden wasn’t raided and charged over his classified documents scandal like Trump was.
“That’s a dictatorship,” she said, glossing over all of the factual differences between Biden’s case and Trump’s.
This eventually led to Trump’s town hall with Sean Hannity last night, during which Trump said he wouldn’t abuse his powers to seek revenge if reelected, “Except for day one.” When asked to clarify, Trump spoke as if he meant it would only take a day for him to go back to the policies of his first term.
“So for one day, he’s gonna be a dictator,” Steve Doocy shrugged. That’s when Lawrence Jones proclaimed, “It’s incredible what he does!”
“This is a guy that knows how to manipulate and control the media,” he said. “This is why the other candidates have found it tough to get any type of air. He gives you the headline, which is, ‘I am going to be a dictator on day one.’ Then, after that, he goes this is what I’m really gonna do… That’s his way of controlling the media and then saying what he really wants to say.”
Doocy was also in on the “joke,” though he pointed out it was enough that “the political left now has their hair on fire” over Trump’s words.
“That’s not the definition of a dictator,” Earhardt chimed back in. “That’s a leader who’s trying to protect our country.”
