Fox News Chyron Reads ‘Europe Plots To Stop Trump From Taking Greenland’ as Defense Secretary Hegseth Says, ‘We’ll See What Happens’

Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth joined Wednesday’s Jesse Watters Primetime on Fox News, where he was asked about the U.S. potentially acquiring Greenland.

President Donald Trump has repeatedly expressed interest in acquiring the Danish territory, even though it is not for sale. That hasn’t stopped Trump and other Republicans from saber-rattling about it. Earlier this month, Trump spoke with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen via phone. One source familiar with the call told The Financial Times the conversation was “horrendous.”

Another source added, “[Trump] was very firm. It was a cold shower. Before, it was hard to take it seriously. But I do think it is serious, and potentially very dangerous.”

In response, Frederiksen said Denmark would increase defense spending by $2 billion while also seeking support from European allies.

On Wednesday, Jesse Watters asked Hegseth about the administration’s prospects for acquiring Greenland. As the host spoke with Hegseth, a chyron on screen read, “Europe plots to stop Trump from taking Greenland.”

“We’re hearing rumors that Denmark’s now spending $2 billion on additional defense and France is considering sending troops,” Watters said. “Are our allies really going to do that?”

“I don’t think so, Jesse,” Hegseth replied. “The president recognizes how strategically significant Greenland is, even if other people didn’t for a very long time. So now, those countries who were supposed to be charged with protecting it, making sure Chinese interests aren’t there are suddenly flocking of interest because President Trump, as he has across the globe, has reshaped the game. So, we’ll end up seeing what happens there. We understand how critical it is to the Arctic, how much the Chinese would love access to the minerals. So, stand by to stand by. We’re watching it and we’ll see what happens.”
