Fox News Contributor Exasperated by Trump Post: ‘He Hasn’t Learned Any Lessons from Why He Lost in 2020’

Washington Post columnist and Fox News contributor Marc Thiessen griped that former President Donald Trump does not seem to grasp why he lost his reelection bid in 2020.

After defeating former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley in Tuesday’s New Hampshire Republican primary, Trump gave an angry victory speech denouncing her. On Truth Social the next day, he wrote that Haley’s donors will be “barred from the MAGA camp” if they donate additional money to her campaign. As he has done many times before, Trump referred to Haley as “Birdbrain” in the post.

On Thursday’s Special Report, Bret Baier reviewed some fundraising numbers

“This is the super PAC from July ’til December – $46 billion for the former president, $50.1 million for Nikki Haley,” Baier noted. “And Marc, in recent days she’s claiming all of these donations. The big question is, you know, how far this goes.”

The host noted next month’s South Carolina primary, which Haley is relying on to boost her campaign even though she trails significantly in the polls.

“I’m not surprised that he’s raising money,” Thiessen said. “But what I’m worried about is his ability to win over Haley voters once this thing is over. You know, when he says anyone who makes a contribution to ‘Birdbrain’ will be permanently banned from MAGA, you know, does that apply to Haley voters too? It shows that he hasn’t learned any lessons from why he lost in 2020. He lost in 2020 because he lost 43,000 swing voters in three states. And about 43,000 swing voters will decide this election next November. He’s gotta win them over.”

The former president hasn’t taken kindly to unsolicited campaign advice from Fox News pundits. After Kayleigh McEnany suggested Trump adopt a “general election tone” this week, Trump responded by calling her a RINO.
