Fox News Segment Calling My Little Pony Movie ‘Woke’ Takes a Very Awkward Detour Into Talking About Bronies

A Friday Fox News article declared that My Little Pony has “gone woke” in the franchise’s newest movie.

My Little Pony: A New Generation was released on Netflix on September 24th, and a recent New York Times review said that it “takes a contemporary spin on the franchise’s tot-friendly tenets of love and friendship by staging a political awakening about tolerance, prejudice, even fascism.”

A recent FoxNews.com article started out by saying, “It appears ‘My Little Pony,’ the kid-friendly animated franchise that dates back to the ’80s, has gone woke.”

Netflix has released “My Little Pony: The Next Generation,” and the 90-minute film welcomes new fantastical creatures, some of them fear-mongering, with a mission to restore the pony world of Equestria with magic…

In an apparent effort to send a message to kids about empowerment, unity and reform, Hudgens plays the heroine of the film, an earth pony named Sunny, who teams up with a curious unicorn named Izzy (Kimiko Glenn) to attempt to make peace with outsiders from other communities. Along the way, they meet some pals and band together as a pack of young progressives wanting to make change.

The hosts of Fox & Friends Saturday briefly discussed the film, with Will Cain saying it “teaches its viewers themes like tolerance, prejudice, and even fascism.”

“The film also depicts anti-magic ponies that are likely to spread fear and untruths,” he added, before saying some have drawn parallels between the antagonist of the film and Donald Trump.

But then things took a turn when Cain jokingly asked Pete Hegseth, “Will this news jeopardize your status as a brony?”

Carley Shimkus started laughing as Hegseth remarked, “I didn’t know I had the status…”

Shimkus awkwardly asked him, “Do you know what a brony is?”

“Is that a man into My Little Ponies?” Hegseth asked. “Well, then, I’m a brony, I guess.”

“No, no, you don’t want to be,” Shimkus quickly said.

“You don’t want to be?” Hegseth inquired.

“Is it more than what I actually assumed?” Cain asked. “I thought bronies were just dudes who were into My Little Pony. Is it more than that?”

Shimkus told them, “There’s a sexual element involved.”

“Oh, there is?” Cain asked.

“Well, I retract everything I said,” Hegseth remarked.

“I thought it was just dudes into My Little Pony,” Cain said.
