Fox’s Turley Says Trump’s Talk About a ‘Third Term’ Makes JD Vance Look Like ‘Mini-Me’

Fox News legal analyst Jonathan Turley pumped the brakes on President Donald Trump’s talk about running for a third term, which is constitutionally prohibited.

Trump and some of his far-right allies have suggested that he can run for a third term even though the 22nd Amendment explicitly states, “No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice.” On Monday, Fox News Senior White House Correspondent Peter Doocy asked the president about a hypothetical matchup against former President Barack Obama.

“If you are allowed – for some reason – to run for a third term, is there a thought that the Democrats could try to run Barack Obama against you?” he asked.

“I’d love that,” Trump responded. “That would be a good one. I’d like that. No, people are asking me to run. And there’s a whole story about running for a third term. I don’t know. I never looked into it. They do say there’s a way you can do it, but I don’t know about that. But I have not looked into it.”

Shortly afterward on The Ingraham Angle on Fox News, Turley said that barring an amendment to the Constitution, running for a third term “does not seem particularly credible.” He also said Trump floating a third term hurts potential 2028 GOP contenders such as Vice President JD Vance by making him and others look like “Mini-Mes.”

“There’s also a cost to this that may not be fair to people like Vance or others who are going to run,” he said. “And that all of this talk tends to diminish them. Part of Trump’s legacy will be securing the White House for a Republican. And this type of talk reduces figures like Vance to sort of Mini-Mes and that’s not a good thing for them. It’s not fair to people like Vance. So, this does appear [to be] something of a jump scare. With the exception of amending the Constitution, it does not seem particularly credible.”
