Greg Gutfeld Blames Media for ‘Their Own Role’ in Trump Assassination Attempts
Fox News host Greg Gutfeld blasted “the media” for “their own role” in the two assassination plots against former President Donald Trump.
Trump appeared on Gutfeld’s show on Wednesday night, just days after the Secret Service foiled a second assassination plot in months, arresting an individual who sought to shoot the Republican nominee as he played golf in Florida on Sunday.
In the wake of the plot the Trump running mate Senator JD Vance (R-OH) accused “liberals” and the mainstream media of ramping up dangerous political rhetoric that was inspiring violence by calling the former president a “danger to democracy” or a “fascist.” In response, commentators and analysts have pointed to the rhetoric that has come from Trump since 2016 – with CNN running a supercut of the Republican calling his electoral rival Vice President Kamala Harris a “fascist.”
Still, in teeing up a question from Trump on his show, Gutfeld reflected on the media’s reporting and laid the blame there.
Gutfeld said: “It’s interesting to see the response to this second attempt. Every time you’re under a bigger threat, the media still blame you even more. It’s almost as if they don’t see their own role in this.”
“Have you just basically accepted this is a fact?” he asked.
Trump, agreeing, seemed less bothered by that view than responses to his ABC-hosted debate performance.
He replied: “I think so, yeah. The media is extremely dishonest, extremely corrupt, actually. Look at the debate. I walked off, I said: ‘That’s it.’ You know, they said, I’m the G.O.A.T. in debates because I had a lot of debates and I became president and the G.O.A.T. means Greatest Of All Time. And I walked off that stage and I thought I had the best debate and I was very unfairly treated by the anchor. I’m not a fan of those guys anymore.”
