Condoleezza Rice graced The View with her presence today and used the opportunity to dole out some wisdom regarding Vladimir Putin.
Putin is, of course, a hot topic in America because it’s widely believed, by citizens and intelligence agencies alike, that Russia interfered in the 2016 election.
“He has been trying to interfere in our elections and in everybody else’s for a very long time,” Rice noted. She said that technological advancements have enabled him to do it more efficiently, but that it’s important to remember Putin has been at this for a while now.
“I would have said to the Russians, ‘We know you did it. At a time of our choosing, we will find a way to punish that behavior,'” said the former Secretary of State on how she would have handled the situation. “But Vladimir Putin is an eye-for-an-eye kind of person. We questioned — or Secretary [Hillary] Clinton — questioned the legitimacy of his election in 2012; now he’s saying, ‘Now I’m going to question the legitimacy of your election by hacking into it and so forth.’ Don’t let him get the satisfaction of thinking that we don’t believe our own elections to be legitimate.”
When asked if she thought he was personally trying to go after Clinton, Rice said she did believe his motivation was personal. She explained that by saying, “He likes to intimidate.”
