President Donald Trump went on a Twitter rampage Friday morning, urging the Justice Department and FBI to investigate his former rival Hillary Clinton.
Trump pointed to a number of alleged transgressions, from new revelations about Clinton’s deal with the DNC to “deleted E-mails, Uranium, Podesta, the Server” and whatever he meant by “plus, plus…”
The tweetstorm comes after Trump vented to Mediaite’s Larry O’Connor in an interview about his frustrations with not being able to direct the Justice Department to investigate Clinton.
Trump’s bloodlust for his former rival was broached on MSNBC Friday morning, as host Willie Geist lamented that the president is “imploring the Justice Department and the FBI to go after his political opponents.”
“Yes, after acknowledging at least, in some notional sense that he understood that he’s not allowed to do that,” political analyst John Heilemann added, “he’s now frustrated by that fact that he can’t behave like an authoritarian dictator.”
Heilemann noted that Trump is “a master at changing the subject,” pointing out that the president’s declarations about Clinton come the same week that the “[Robert] Meuller probe is closing in on him.”
“Being able…to go back to one of his most successful campaign riffs, at least for his base — Crooked Hillary — and throw out an all encompassing set of charges here,” Heilemann said, “is the way he likes to deal with problems when they land in his lap.”
