Maddow: Trump’s Legal Team In Place To ‘Explain It On Fox News’ If He Ends Mueller Probe

In recent days, President Donald Trump has shaken up his Russia probe legal team, bringing on Deep State conspiracist Joe diGenova while seeing former lead lawyer John Dowd step down. And on a day that was dominated by the news of ex-UN Ambassador and current Fox News contributor John Bolton being named national security adviser, another lawyer was added to the legal team — diGenova’s wife, Victoria Toensing.

During tonight’s broadcast of The Rachel Maddow Show, MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow broke down the recent changes to Trump’s legal squad. And the way she sees it, the president isn’t necessarily putting together a team of legal experts in order to put together a crack legal defense against Special Counsel Robert Mueller as much as he’s gathering talking heads to defend any moves he may make towards the probe.

“Four sources tonight say what set off this big shakeup in the president’s legal defense is the president going through the roof about Robert Mueller’s latest actions,” she noted after describing the recent legal team shakeup. “Robert Mueller and prosecutors in the special counsel’s office subpoenaing business records of the Trump Organization apparently set the president off in this new tizzy of changes.”

She then went on to deliver this observation on Trump’s lawyers:

“What he’s putting together is not the team you put together to mount a legal defense for a president. In fact, to do any serious legal work at all. It appears that that part is over. What the president is putting together is the kind of team, a guy like him might put together to run a P.R. A P.R. operation on TV explaining the president’s actions. As hilarious as the president’s D-list lineup of lawyers is starting to look, I’m pretty sure they’re not there to actually do legal work. Him putting these people in place makes it seem like he’s going to try to end this by some other means and they are the team that explains it on Fox News.”
