Trump Touts ‘Great Unity’ in the GOP Before Slamming Flake: I Initially Thought He Was a Democrat

This afternoon President Trump insisted that there is “great unity” in the Republican party, before he went on to slam Sen. Jeff Flake.

Flake, of course, announced he’s not running for re-election and delivered a speech yesterday tearing into the president and Republicans who aren’t doing more to speak out against him.

He did say part of the issue in talking about GOP infighting is the fake news and “fake stories” coming out, but also said politics is a “tough business.”

Trump finally addressed Flake directly, saying he was against him before even knowing him, and bringing up the book the senator wrote this year denouncing Trump and Trumpism.

The president said that the first time he saw Flake on TV, “I said, ‘I assume he’s a Democrat.'”

The president then slammed Flake for his low approval numbers and said his decision not to run again was probably the smart thing to do.
