Trump Warns of War on Men Amid Kavanaugh Probe: ‘It’s a Very Scary Time For Young Men in America’
President Donald Trump expressed new support for Brett Kavanaugh on Tuesday while lamenting the “current climate” and what it means for young men.
Speaking with reporters on the White House South Lawn, the president heaped praise on his embattled Supreme Court nominee as the FBI looks into multiple allegations of sexual misconduct against him.
When asked if he had a message for young men and women in America, Trump expressed optimism for Kavanaugh while saying “It’s a very scary time” for people who can be ruined by misconduct allegations whether they’re true or not.
“It’s a tough thing going on. If you can be an exemplary person for 35 years and then somebody comes in they say you did this or that and they give three witnesses at this point who do not corroborate what you are saying, it’s a very scary situation where you’re guilty until proven innocent…I say that it’s a very scary time for young men in America when you can be guilty of something that you may not be guilty of.”
Trump lamented that Kavanaugh has been “brutally treated,” but insisted he doesn’t want to do anything to interrupt the process.
The president’s remarks seem to echo his son’s criticisms of the #MeToo movement. Donald Trump Jr. gave an interview yesterday in which he said he’s more concerned for his sons than his daughters in the current era.
