Romney: Trump’s Obama Birtherism Not as Outrageous as What He’s Saying Now

romneyMitt Romney appeared on CNN this morning and Gloria Borger confronted him about why he wasn’t so anti-Donald Trump when he sought out his endorsement in 2012.

Romney made a big speech last week asking Republicans to reject Trump, but last time around, Trump was raising questions about President Obama‘s citizenship and Romney raised no objections.

So Borger asked him why, if Trump’s racist rhetoric offends him this time, he was okay with embracing a birther four years ago.

Here is how Romney responded:

“He had a belief that President Obama wasn’t born in this country, I said that I disagreed with him, there are political views about one another where we’re gonna disagree.”

Borger countered that Obama certainly considers what Trump said to be offensive. Romney just called it a “whole ridiculous thing.”
