Ted Cruz Whups Jimmy Kimmel at ‘Blobfish Basketball Classic’, Says Kids Are the Real Winners

After all the trash talk and hype, the so-called “Blobfish Basketball Classic” has ended with Sen. Ted Cruz emerging victorious, winning over TV host Jimmy Kimmel 11 to 9. But the real winners are these kids, says Sen Cruz.

Jimmy Kimmel agrees.

The game, called the Blobfish Basketball Classic because of the tweet that started it all, was played Saturday night at Texas Southern University’s Arena in Houston, Texas.

There was a lot of build-up, and the two men agreed to raise money through the event for the charities of their choice. The two charities are both focused on children.

Senator Cruz played for Houston-based Generation One, which focuses on early childhood education. From their site:

Generation One’s mission is to be a catalyst for systemic change in the education system, by creating an equitable educational landscape across the city. Children and families are positioned for success through 1) a trauma-informed, evidence-based approach to Early Childhood Education and 2) a comprehensive family support plan, headed by professionals at the forefront of their field 3) a “Living Laboratory” environment, an innovative methodology to seeking and implementing cutting edge educational methodology, with outcomes validated by collaborating partners.

Jimmy Kimmel played for the Texas Children’s Hospital.

Texas Children’s Hospital, located in Houston, Texas, is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to create a healthier future for children and women throughout our global community by leading in patient care, education and research. We are proud to be consistently ranked among the top children’s hospitals in the nation.

You can donate to Generation One here, or to the Texas Children’s Hospital here.

In addition to the fundraising totals listed above, both Cruz and Kimmel have agreed to donate $10,000 to both charities. Which makes this a big win for the kids all around.
