Debbie Wasserman-Schultz: If Benghazi Committee Is Tilted, Dems Should Boycott
The chairs of both the Democratic National Committee and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee have both strongly encouraged House Democrats to boycott the Benghazi select committee headed up by Republican Trey Gowdy, dismissing it as no more than a partisan political vendetta.
DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman-Schultz spoke at the Christian Science Monitor breakfast on Wednesday and said that first off, the committee should be an even split of Democrats and Republicans, so the GOP doesn’t have more seats. She said that “our leadership should seriously consider not participating if the process is not going to be fair.”
Meanwhile, DCCC Chair Steve Israel also spoke out at a Democratic caucus meeting and said the committee appears to be a political exercise with no Republican interest in fairness.
“It has become a Republican political strategy meant to raise money and excite their base. The American people want us to be focused on creating middle class jobs, not jobs for lawyers investigating Democrats. Republicans have now totally crossed the line by exploiting and fundraising off of this tragedy and the loss of brave Americans. We should have nothing to do with that.”
This comes on the heel of news that Democrats have been backing off threats to boycott the Benghazi investigation.
