Gallup: Uninsured Rate Falling 3x Faster in States Embracing Obamacare
Today in no kidding: on Wednesday morning, Gallup reported that states that had created their own insurance exchanges and expanded Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act experienced a significantly higher decrease in their uninsured rate than those states that did not.
The twenty-one states that implemented both the marketplaces and the Medicaid expansion saw an average 2.5 point drop in their uninsured rate in the first quarter of 2014, while states that opted out of the provisions saw only a .8 point drop. Hey, here’s a chart:

Note that the states that chose to establish marketplaces and accept federally-funded Medicaid expansion had lower uninsurance rates to begin with, in addition to seeing a larger drop thanks to the ACA’s provisions. The result is an even greater gap in the uninsured rate between participating and non-participating states.
