Multiple New Jersey Newspapers Run Editorials Calling on Christie to Resign

christieMultiple New Jersey newspapers ran editorials today all calling on Governor Chris Christie to resign just days after his endorsement of Donald Trump.

The joint editorial was written by 6 Gannett papers, including The Asbury Park Press and the Cherry Hill Courier-Post, and it literally starts out with the line, “What an embarrassment. What an utter disgrace.”

The editorial shreds Christie for his arrogance, opportunism, hypocrisy, sarcasm, and “long neglect of the state to pursue his own selfish agenda.”

And it appears the Trump endorsement, combined with his attitude at a press conference yesterday, was the final straw:

Whether Christie likes journalists or not — and he decidedly does not like those who refuse to genuflect before him — he should treat them with professionalism, not contempt. More importantly, he should treat his constituents with respect by answering questions that bear on his policies and his performance as governor. In refusing to be accountable to the press, he is refusing accountability to New Jersey’s citizens.

The editorial calls out Christie for being out of the state of New Jersey for the vast majority of 2015, saying he is putting his own ambition ahead of his constituents.

They conclude with a blistering call for him to resign:

Christie has taken his hands off the rudder, and no one has rushed forward to help steer the boat.

New Jersey needs someone whose full attention is devoted to making life better for New Jersey’s citizens. That won’t happen until Christie steps down or is forced out.
