NPR Listeners Skewer Wait, Wait…Don’t Tell Me! for Kim Kardashian Appearance
Kim Kardashian isn’t necessarily a name one would associate with public radio. Then again, when you’re promoting a book entirely composed of selfies, any and all possible media outlets are fair game. At least, if they can promise a calm, amenable crowd. So of course NPR’s long-running news quiz show, Wait, Wait…Don’t Tell Me! was the perfect place for Kardashian to plug Selfish.
One of the show’s more popular segments, called “Not My Job,” invites celebrity guests of all kinds and asks them questions about subjects they most likely know nothing about. Kardashian’s topic? North Korea’s most popular “Kim,” Kim Jong Un. At first, guest host Mike Pesca tries and fails to get Kardashian to confirm the sex of her and husband Kanye West‘s second child, but they gradually launch into the quiz round soon after.
Compared to most WWDTM “Not My Job” rounds, Kardashian’s isn’t all that great. Yet Pesca, judge and scorekeeper Bill Kurtis, and panelists Maz Jobrani, Amy Dickinson and Peter Grosz manage to get a few good laughs out of the episode. However, the comments section on NPR’s website — usually a bastion of loving support when compared to the rest of the Internet — turned fairly quickly.
Never change, NPR. Never change.
