Good news for Massachusetts Rep. Barney Frank: CNN has confirmed that the former chairman of the House Financial Services Committee will marry his partner, Jim Ready, in Massachusetts. Wikipedia describes Ready as a “surfing enthusiast” whom Frank met during a gay political fundraiser in Maine.

Mitt Romney, sensing his grip on the Republican nomination being tugged away by Newt Gingrich, has launched a new ad showcasing his four-decade long union to the same union in a implicit jab at the former Speaker of the House. “I’ve been married to the same woman for 25 – excuse me, I’ll get in trouble – for 42 years. I’ve been in the same church my entire life.”

As Newt Gingrich has surged to the top of the polls in the Republican nomination race, fresh scrutiny is being drawn to his colorful past. While much has been made about the notorious story about his divorce to his first wife Jackie Battley, where Gingrich had her sign the divorce papers while in the hospital undergoing surgery, though the story has been stretched to apocryphal heights (e.g. it wasn’t her death bed, the divorce was discussed beforehand) — less publicized has been how they first met — like how Battley was Gingrich’s high school geometry teacher. Er, what?

Tuesday evening, Fox News’ Sean Hannity spoke with presidential hopeful Michele Bachmann about the “mainstream media’s” attacks on her, particularly in light of the controversial marriage pledge the congresswoman recently signed. Bachmann, for her part, says she’s choosing not to focus on negativity but, rather, on the economy and job creation. Hannity then offered Bachmann the opportunity to address recent comments she’d made that had some in the media enraged. Bachmann instead spoke about unemployment

New York Times columnist David Brooks is kicking Sandra Bullock when she’s down. In his op-ed today, he asks whether winning an Oscar but losing a husband was a worthy trade. Surprise: Brooks argues Bullock, and most Americans, make the wrong choice. And yes, by creating a false rivalry between career and social life, he implies that Bullock consciously made that decision. But even if she did, isn’t it a great trade-off?
