Anderson Cooper Slams Mubarak Speech: ‘Same Lies We’ve Heard For Two Weeks’

CNN’s Anderson Cooper is in a position to offer a very unique take on the current events unfolding in Egypt right now. Not only was he in the chaotic streets of Cairo very recently, he also suffered some sort of beating by pro-Mubarak forces. Its from this position that his brutal criticism of embattled Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak.

Transcript of the money quote from last night’s AC360 (via):

“He kept repeating these lies, that this is all some sort of foreign interference and that’s something we’ve heard on state television, they’re being paid, they’re being motivated to go there. They’re being paid $100 or 100 Euros depending on what report you hear. He talked about they will not accept to listen to any foreign interventions and dictation. Trying to play up on Egyptian national pride, saying they are resisting the United States and others from who want to dictate to Egypt what they want. Again these are lies of a regime who is trying to stay in power. He says its not about me, Hosni Mubarak, its about the people of Egypt. What you are looking at are the people of Egypt, it’s all about Hosni Mubarak, and he believes it is all about him, he believes he is Egypt.”

I watched a bit of Anderson last night to catch up on events. I tried to watch Greta O’Van Susteren, but I still haven’t learned to tolerate her smug, whiny interruptions. Anderson was being a bit Sarah Bernhardtesque.

“What you are looking at are the people of Egypt,”

What you are seeing are protesters. Once you get among the trees, you can no longer see the big picture. What about all the people not protesting. Seeing Cooper get beaten up does make for good television.

It is a good thing you posted this here becasue fewer and fewer people are watching AC and his gang of liberal pals over at CNN.

  • Alz

I find it interesting for something you deem so self-evident you feel the name to proclaim it constantly.

Maybe this attitude is one of the reasons Mubaraks folks slapped him around last week.

Anderson sure was all about bringing down Mubarak, wasn’t he?
