David Axelrod Tells Fox News Sunday: Leaving White House Early 2011
This morning on Fox News Sunday David Axelrod, one of President Obama’s top advisers, told host Chris Wallace that he intends to leave the White House in “late winter, early spring” of 2011.
He plans to return to Chicago then to begin work on the President’s re-election campaign for 2012.
Axelrod is the latest in a string of high-level departures from the Obama administration, such as Peter Orszag and Rahm Emanuel. However, this may not be all bad news for Obama: turnover in the White House at the two-year mark is not at all uncommon. And Axelrod was effective at getting Obama elected in 2008 — so it’s possible his strengths are better suited to the campaign trail rather than the White House.
