Did Mitt Romney Open His Colorado Speech By Insulting The Audience?

Mitt Romney opened his election night speech in Colorado by taking a whack at the apparently paltry crowd. “That’s a little smaller than the 2,800 people last night at Arapahoe High School!” Romney quipped, before adding that, “you guys are just as loud.”

ABC News reporter Emily Friedman took a photo of the underwhelming crowd before Romney took the stage.

The crowd seemed to reflect the lack of enthusiasm in the state, as Slate’s Dave Weigel observed, “Somehow Romney gets 19,000 fewer votes in CO than he did in 2008.” Larry Sabato added that, Romney lost “25 percentage points from 2008.”

Watch Romney’s speech, which was given before learning he lost to Rick Santorum, below:

Who cares, they are going to vote for him anyway.

Uh oh, the Liberal from Massachusetts, AKA, the most conservative Republican candidate in the running, just got romped.

The good news for the Koch Brothers is that Willard can start renting a Port-a-Potty for his rallies. That will save them a great deal of money.

Come on everybody. Get excited For dull boy.

  • ganmerlad

Yes, but they will vote un-enthusiastically.

Trying to build a controversy where there is none?  I saw the speech, and while I’m typically “unexcited” about Romney, he really did a good job.

Newt was delayed as he had to change his soiled magic underwear after seeing the results…

Newt probably wears boxers.  Or thongs.  Eew, brain scrub.  Boxers.

Well a vote is a vote. As long as they come up to cast it.

Coloradans are too smart to fall fro his brand of rhetoric, that’s why he lost. we know a rich corporate  boss when we see one!

Serious question here…  I haven’t turned on Fox News since 2001 (instead I get the clips from various news outlets).  Are there any opinion makers on that network who support Romney?

And the search for the non-Mitt continues.  Maybe the Hermanator will be enticed to jump back in.

Wasn’t this just a glorified ‘straw poll’?  If your vote doesn’t actually count, why does anyone care except the candidates and their marketing folks… Sabato’s very good, I’m surprised he’d compare the numbers when the votes are unimportant.

This GOP primary season is just what the doctor ordered for President Obama!  The party is split and they “candidates” (term used loosely) are creating a real hate for each other that will prevent a unified GOP from ever forming.

    LOSERS!

The contentious GOP primary season is basically performing all of the opposition research necessary for Obama to win the 4 to 10 “battle ground” states this fall. Since a majority of the voters don’t care and aren’t paying attention to the daily back and forth between mostly Mitt and Newt, these revelations will be fresh come September when it’s “go time” and the real campaign season ramps up.

My question is about that striped shirt that Romney wears all the time: Does he have just one or does he have 50 duplicates?
I won’t even mention his mom jeans.

  • bob ross

There going to have to spend a lot more money to get this guy elected president.

I’m kinda of with you, at least on this point: I think what Romney INTENDED to convey is that despite how small the crowd was HERE, he’d actually drawn a bigger crowd earlier, such that this crowd wasn’t ‘representative’ of how the state’s voters feel about his candidacy.

Maybe, maybe not. Regardless – Obama’s going to win the state handily.

The jeans are too look more like ‘the folks’. The fact that they look like mom jeans is a function of the fact that Romney is 65 & not built right for jeans. A 65 year old built like him is going to look just fine in tailored trousers, but the image gurus on Team Mittens have advised him otherwise, so he ends up looking like a guy who just got wedgied. The stripe shirt thing is because his legs are skinny & his chest relatively pigeon-ish – stripes have a thinning effect. It’s all to make him look for ‘with it’ & ‘hip’ – after all, he’s running to displace a guy who’s 15 years younger than him, athletic & built like a whippet.

Ain’t enough money on the planet. They’d have to make each and every one of us independently wealthy.

    MITT ROMNEY,
You did not insult the crowd, when you gave your speech the other night.  The problem is that if you were to walk across the water, some would say, “Mitt Romney can’t swim.”  I am voting for you, Mr. Romney.  I know that you can defeat Obama, and Obama knows it too.  He is shaking in his boots.
God Bless You and your wonderful family.

It is clear that a rich sob cannot buy everything he wants, even the presidency.
