Fox News Analyst Calls Times Sq. Bomb Incident “Astounding Intelligence Failure”

video

Well it didn’t take long for the politicization of the failed Times Square terrorist plot to start. Earlier today, Fox News analyst Peter Johnson, Jr. was a guest on America’s Newsroom and was not demure in criticizing the government’s role in failing to uncover the failed plot. Nevermind that the suspect was apprehended within 53 hours and 20 minutes of planting the bomb (according to NY Police commissioner Ray Kelly), or that nobody was injured. Instead Johnson felt it an appropriate time to criticize our country’s anti-terrorism efforts.

nobody was injured because the bomb failed, not because he was caught. the airline flagged this guy because he paid cash for the ticket a half hour before the flight, not because if any intelligence authorities had on him. he was on no terror watch list. they got lucky catching this guy he almost got away.

  • MichelleF

Nevermind that the suspect was apprehended within 53 hours and 20 minutes of planting the bomb (

But Colby, the only reason he was caught is because the airline warned officials. I’m not saying the events leading up to the bomb were a failure, because I don’t know all the facts yet, but I think we can agree that the aftermath did show some failures. And I have to say that it was a HUGE failure to let him whiz through airport security (which it appears he did) without further scrutiny. I mean he bought a last minute ticket with CASH to the middle east. Can we all agree that a little profiling might have worked here?

  • smack

the suspect was profiled, the media had an A.P.B. for a balding white guy in his 40′s, perhaps a teabagger.

  • MichelleF

    And Colby,
I like you. I think you are fairer than most on this site, but why do you post something that you don’t agree with that someone on Fox says, but no one will post the hysterical things said on other sites. Like on CNN, they were sympathyizing with him because must have been SO upset because he lost his house. Or on MSNBC how Contessa Brewer wished that the person didn’t have ties to Islam. I mean come on!

That’s not to say I don’t think this is a valid thread. I think it is.

Breaking news from CNN-Feds/NYPD HAD bomber in cust. prior to Flt pushing off from gate.

Needless to say if our president was Bush, this Fox News dirtbag would be trumpeting how Bush is keeping America safe.

  • Rogue-Comic

The show in question was America “Live” not “newsroom.” How did you miss that in an 88 word “write-up,” Mr. Hall? Also, you wrote too many passive voice sentences especially for something so short on content.

I’d be ashamed to cash the check for this.

  • Grammie

Colby is following a theme begun by Glynnis here:

    http://www.mediaite.com/tv/nyc-police-commish-examining-video-showing-white-male-in-his-40s/

“Full video below. At the New Yorker Steve Coll points out that the “strength of American counterterrorism operations lies in its forensic and investigative abilities after an attack takes place. In effect, when a terrorist group, large or small, sets off a bomb, it temporarily lights up its own network by exposing the forensic trail leading back from the event.”

As I said then what would really reassure me is that their greatest strength would be in catching them before they act. Unlike KO, I don’t think terrorists are stupid b/c they get caught before they act so they really aren’t a threat.

  • MichelleF

    Dan,
    Is that you?

  • MichelleF

Needless to say if our president was Bush, this Fox News dirtbag would be trumpeting how Bush is keeping America safe.

Sorry that was supposed to precede my comment.

  • Grammie

    Michelle, who is Dan?

  • SteveMG

How is this “politicizing” the incident? Where’s the politics involved?

Frankly, I think Johnsons’s arguments are hogwash and have no merit. But his political motives are nowhere to be found. What am I missing?

However, a news report from AP say that:
“Deputy FBI director John Pistole says the alleged Times Square bomber was placed on the No Fly list Monday, hours before he was arrested.

And yet the suspect was allowed to board the plane. How did that happen?”

Not every criticism – fair or not – at our government is politically motivated.

  • MichelleF

Haha, Dan Abrams. The person who started this site. Former MSNBC’er and hater of all things Conservative.

Grammie what is your obsession with the great Keith Olbermann, you should worry more and your conservative dung pile, Pill Poppin Limbaugh, Stoned Beck and Racist Hannity, who was such a chicken that he said waterboarding was not that bad but refused to do it when challenged by Olbermann.

The bomb went off nobody was hurt and that is good, unless you are Fox News and want people to die just to prove Obama is not doing his job well. Peter Johnson meant to say “Fox News has a serious Intelligence failure”

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Bill-Adkins/1585417987 Bill Adkins

Wow – T-square bomber caught in 53 hours by Obama anti-terror effort is a failure. Wonder what that, in Fox News analyst Peter Johnson, Jr.’s shiny pate, makes the failure to capture Osama bin laden and giving him a 9 year head start by Bush.

  • MichelleF

Bill, you’re back!! We were wondering where you were hiding today.

How about responding to my post:

Can you not admit there was some failure somewhere, Bill? As I stated, I’m not laying it on the gov’t, but you have to admit some things did slip through the cracks and luckily we got LUCKY with some others.

You are indeed wise and perceptive. Thank you.

  • tjl

    Haha. Thanks Bill!

  • The Real Royal King

All I can say is that by this moron’s analysis 9/11 must have been an intelligence success. Where does FOX find these people, and where does FOX find people who give these people any credibility? FOX seems to get worse and worse by the day!

  • The Real Royal King

Duh! Michelle! How do you think the airlines knew to warn? How do you think the system interfaced functioned? Our intelligence community. I know you absolutely abhor anything and everything Obama, even his skin color, but today we know that we are safer than we were on 10 September 2001, for a variety of reasons, including some W infrastructure work. For goodness sakes, must you be so petty and self-serving!

  • MichelleF

The bomb went off nobody was hurt and that is good, unless you are Fox News and want people to die just to prove Obama is not doing his job well.

Spoken like a true liberal moron! It’s sad that it’s not the first time on this site I’ve heard a lib say that someone on the other side (namely me) wanted people dead. And please don’t get me started on the moral failures of prominent libs. The difference is Beck and Limbaugh admitted they had a problem and got help. If you judge them for past failures, I guess that’s on you. Although you libs never had a problem with liberal lion and drunk murdered Ted Kennedy, which is funny.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Bill-Adkins/1585417987 Bill Adkins

What/where was the failure, Michelle? Oh, and I’ve been around, sorry you missed me.

  • The Real Royal King

Michelle, do you have any other deceased individuals you wish to malign? It seems to be one of your favortie tools, and one of the more classless ones.

By the way, Senator Kennedy was also in treatment and as a result was able to help millions of Americans for whom our nation was shirking its duty. I guess that doesn’t count. What good have Beck and Limbaugh done for anyone except themselves. Unless, of course, you count exciting the easily excitable good.

  • MediaWhore

If Obama cured cancer the first thing you’d see on Fox News would be a slew of “experts” blaming him for putting chemotherapists out of work.

There is absolutely zero value in listening to these ridiculously partisan hacks. They’re not the least bit interested in journalism in any sense of the word. They spend half their time looking at the day’s events, and the other half figuring out how they frame those events in order to blame Obama/liberals/Democrats.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Scott-Heckman/1446404196 Scott Heckman

MIchelleF you are just pissed on how bad the Conservatives messed up the countr, do you realize that Obama is still cleaning up the mess your boy Bush put this country in. Or are you just another Conservative Tea bagging racist?
Was Kennedy ever convicted of any crime? No. Did he go to rehab. Yes. Was he reelected every time but the people of Massachusetts yes, so I guess they thought he did nothing wrong. Was he one of the most respected member of the Senate, by both sides?
What do you think of how the Repugnants are spending your tax payers dollars at strip clubs.?
    Please Michelle enlighten us.

  • MichelleF

    King,
Ted Kennedy doesn’t deserve anyones sympathy, in my opinion. I’m just glad I wasn’t in his shoes when he passed to the other side. You can’t escape punishment forever, thankfully.

Was Kennedy ever convicted of any crime? So you’re saying because he was never even brought up on charges because of who he was, that he’s innocent. Give me a break!

Was he reelected every time but the people of Massachusetts – A pretty sad commentary if you ask me. I mean come on, Byrd been around forever and he high up in the clan. Those things don’t matter to Dems.

MIchelleF you are just pissed on how bad the Conservatives messed up the country – how did you EVER come to that conclusion. I didn’t agree with Bush on some things, but Obama is driving us over a cliff.

Was he one of the most respected member of the Senate, by both sides? – again sad commentary, but not actually relevent.

I know you absolutely abhor anything and everything Obama, even his skin color, – again with the racism king. I think you need to look in the mirror. I brought up some very good points in a civil way and there you charge racism again. Grow up!

    What/where was the failure, Michelle

The fact that he bought a one way ticket with cash to the middle east at the last minute and WASN’T scrutized by security. Heaven forbid we racially profile.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Scott-Heckman/1446404196 Scott Heckman

Wow MichelleF I have always heard that it was possible but this is the first time I have ever hear someone actually type out of their ass.
In our country as I am sure your idol Beck says you are innocent until proven guilty. Right.? The constitution says that. I am sure Glenn has put that on his magic chalkboards many times. Your argument cries of the things you conservative are always preaching socialism. That is what they used to do in the old USSR, no trial, you are guilty no matter what. He was reelected buy a big majority every time, so I guess the Conservative that voted for him must be really stupid right?
    .

  • Averreauxii

MichelleF, clueless gal. You don’t race profile because he bought a ticket with cash. You profile his behavior. The last terrorist who did that was not a pakistani but a black boy from Africa. It may be a blonde girl next time.

PS: The databases the airlines use to flag problem passengers are maintained by the feds. Lets save judgment till we know more. It’s stunning for you rightie folks not to appreciate the fact that this dude was caught in less than 72hrs.

  • tjl

MichelleF, we thank you for playing the part of partisan hack. You’re a gem. Not too bright, but we appreciate you playing along!

  • Grammie

Michelle, do you think they use a dog whistle to round up the pack of dogs?

For some reason I think someone just sicced their version of a pack of mad dogs on you.

  • Bias-Media

Sadly, politicizing this event one way or the other is part of the reality of our society today. I am just very very grateful that the bomb did not go off…

    …we dodged another bullet…whew!

  • Grammie

    Dittos, Media.

  • MichelleF

MichelleF, clueless gal. You don’t race profile because he bought a ticket with cash. You profile his behavior.

Yes, which brings me to the point that he paid cash for a one way ticket to the middle east at the last minute. Seriously, am I talking out loud?

That’s ok Grammie, I seem to bring it out in them. I take it as a compliment that they seem to be obsessed with me.

Ah the old liberal calling conservative not to bright schtick. That one is getting old. At least join the debate instead of condescendingly calling me stupid and moving along. Way to advance the debate.

  • ImNotBlue

I guess all that answers my “how will they spin it” question.

    Will the new mantra be:
    (A) The Obama Administration succeeds in preventing another attack (ignoring that once again, the attack would have happened, had the attacker not failed… IOW the plan wasn’t actually foiled)
    (B) It’s all Bush’s fault… for some reason
    (C) In Arizona nobody would have reported the SUV in the first place… even though that doesn’t make any sense or reflect the actual written law, AND is simply an unrelated diversion
    (D) Sarah Palin
    (E) All of the above

Looks like this will be an: (A) and (B) answer!

Obama saved the day… even though (as even Jay Leno pointed out) the guy was actually on the plane, minutes before taking off, before they realized it was him. And it’s all Bush’s fault… because it’s easier to blame him than to think critically!

    Thank you all for playing!

  • writer

Bill Adkins is still pissed that it turned out the car bomb guy wasn’t a tea partier. He so hoped it would be. So much so that he kept repeating “He COULD have been a tea partier.” And while the King and Heckman like to champion the alcohol besotted Ted Kennedy and mock Limbaugh, how many women did Limbaugh’s pill addiction kill? I believe the score is 1-0, Kennedy. But Kennedy was a good leftie, so let’s overlook any little indiscretions, like leaving a woman to drown.

  • MichelleF

    This just in:

Obaama wants you to know it was the airlines fault he almost got away. I guess Bush wasn’t around to blame.

  • philmon

53 hours after we got lucky that the bomb didn’t go off and injure hundreds, you mean? His question is legitimate.

On the other hand … you can’t catch ‘em all. People are going to slip under the radar. THEY know that.

Not that we shouldn’t try. It’s ok to ask the question. Should we have been on to this guy?

    Maybe, maybe not.

Wow ANOTHER ANALyst from Fuks news politicizing a potential tragic event. i dont think the right wing fascists are going to be happy until maybe another couple of planes hit some towers on US Soil and kill 1000′s…THEN THEY CAN REALLY BLAME OBAMA.

  • Liberty – Not Redistribution

It was an intell failure. Guess what mediate, the bomb didn’t blow up because of anything the NYPD or feds did. It didn’t blow up because the bomber was an idiot.

I don’t care for Coulter but she’s right, Obama’$ counter-terror policy is “Hope the bombs don’t blow up.”
