Cable news ratings, February 4, 2011:

•Fox News replaced Hannity with an Egypt special Friday night, and rolled over CNN’s Piers Morgan and MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow. The Egypt special attracted an audience of 468,000 viewers 25-54, compared to 286,000 for Piers Morgan Tonight and 284,000 for Rachel Maddow. Among total viewers, Maddow was second, ahead of Morgan.

•MSNBC dominated the Friday night ratings at 10 p.m. and 11 p.m., narrowly edging Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren at 10 and a Reagan special at 11, but not with news. MSNBC aired its usual Friday night prison programming, Lockup.

Ya think people prefer “Fair and Balanced” over lamestream socialist lies, half-truth, mis-representations, slime and propaganda. ?

    YES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Harry Flashman

Neither MSNBC nor CNN get it, nor will they.

As much as liberals howl and whine about Fox being slanted and even illegitimate (Faux News), Fox’s coverage is consistently better and more fair. The viewers get it. And it tells in the constant ratings pounding delivered by Fox to their competition.

The people not understanding this are the management at MSNBC and CNN. They think that what people want is what they offer because they’re surrounded by the liberal bubble. In short – they think everyone thinks the way they do. Even the empiricism of the ratings doesn’t convince them otherwise.

So…they stick with Matthews and Maddow and Schultz and Spitzer and wonder why they’re belly-flopping to a network that they thing doesn’t count.

A wiser man than me would say that this fits the very definition of insanity.

So taking Hannity off the air caused FOX’s ratings to go up.

    Nice straw man argument.

    Straw man explanation:
Misrepresenting the position of your opponent or an argument for the other side, then arguing against the misrepresentation. Generally, the “straw man” fallacy exaggerates the opposing argument, makes it so outrageous that it’s easy to demolish. A perfectly logical case will then be made, but a case that has absolutely nothing to do with the question in dispute. I say, “The penalties for marijuana use are much too harsh.” You respond, “He wants to end all drug laws. That would keep a lot of dangerous drug dealers on the loose. Would that be good for America?” You have demolished an argument I never made and so are guilty of the straw-man sin. If you say, “American cars are just too expensive these days,” and I reply, “It is irresponsible of you to encourage the buying of Japanese cars — it’s going to destroy all of our jobs,” I am guilty of the same sin.

YAY TEAM!!! This multimillion dollar networks victory makes me feel better about my life!

  • Sidhekitten

You know your network sucks when as a news channel, you have to put on a show about life in prison to beat the 10pm slot on your competition’s station. I wonder if it was a rerun.

  • Sidhekitten

Oh hey, I thought that Fox did not have news people, just talking heads devoted to the holy church of the right. Speaking of heads, I guess the guy from Fox that got the shit kicked up of him was an imaginary reporter beaten by imaginary thugs, thus it never happened.

Seriously, my prayers go with him and with Mr Cooper and to the others who have gone into harms way to try to tell us what is going on.

Fox News killing in the ratings as usual.

Well… at least they didn’t beat their “competitors” (if you can even call them that at this point) combined for once.

Jesus Christ! How many times will you people keep using this ad populum fallacy? Just because something has greater ratings or is more popular doesn’t mean it’s content is correct, truthful or even more legit. It just means that MORE people view the program! It’s a quantitative argument not a qualitative one. If we were to judge shows solely by ratings, Jersey Shore would be one of the best shows on TV content wise with it’s 9 million viewers last week. Many intelligent people would disabuse that rationale. Like I have said time and time again and this can be proven by data, conservatives and/or Republicans (40% of electorate) view Fox News almost exclusively. They rarely watch anything else. Other ideological groups (60%) are not as discriminating or loyal and have options when it comes to choice. They spread around and watch MULTIPLE channels INCLUDING FNC. Fox is the only rightwing network therefore, it doesn’t need to share it’s audience since it cateres to a certain ideological group. It has nothing to do with the veracity of it’s message/coverage….duh. People watch programming that reinforces their pre-existing beliefs and opinions.

    YES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That’s quite funny considering FOX NEWS defended their “right” in court to LIE and deliberately DISTORT and SLANT news that they disseminate. So who exactly is the propaganda network again?

Gasket, my guess is that the way your thought processes malfunction, the only way you’re ever gonna hit the media big-time is in an MSNBC Lockup episode. You’d fit in nicely, it seems, with the losers and whiners and general riff-raff. You sound like just another slacker who thinks he is a victim.

You’re not smart enough or math-developed enuf to realize that in a Democracy, a majority or even sometimes a plurality wins. Move to Cuba, where the govt. needs more people who think like you do.

“enuf” is not a word, Einstein. Maybe you shouldn’t question my intelligence just yet. Let me break it down so that even a 7 year old child (not saying that you are one) could understand.

    1. I was not questioning the superiority of FNC’s superiority in (news) cable ratings. Their numbers are BIG!
    2. I was questioning the reasons offered for the ratings dominance.

You see…(1) and (2) are not mutually exclusive. Now, can you please stop drinking water from your toilet bowl and challenge my reasoned statements with a logical and factual argument instead. I would actually respect you for it. Really! No, I am not going to Cuba. It’s illegal.

  • TCinAZ

FNC could run a livestock auction and still score bigger numbers than CNN and MSNBC does.

  • Joe Astroturf

Fox eventually will be the only news left and no liberal Muslim Brotherhood loving President will be able to force us to watch the fringe media that no longer reports news as they take our country away.

    Here’s a verse

When he lost his commie czar it must have knocked off his sox
theirs actually someone reporting news but its only Fox
he still has another czar Chavez loving lloyd
he’s busy trying to make free speech null and void

Corpsemen in the 57 states as your dying
Jeff Jones will be laughing so much he’ll be crying
now you know why they had you read that death book
don’t you wish you had money like Rangle the crook
you invested 50 years to safe guard your health care
Nancy gives it to illegals and thinks that its fare

  • notsofast

Yes,- sure- but if you take all 300 TV channels , multiply their viewers by 77.3 ,divide that by Pi, add the number of Wendy’s in the USA x the number of light years to the Spiral Galaxy M100 and then add the number of stalactites in the Luray caverns, you will find that is nearly as many as watched FOX.

  • X-3

So, you know about Luray Caverns????

The real story here is Beck’s ratings. All those people who were telling us that Beck’s ratings were declining are eating crow. Beck garnered more viewers for his time slot than did all others combined. But, as one poster stated, the sun rose again.
