CNN’s Kurtz On Why Fox Needed To ‘Pull The Plug’ On ‘Radioactive’ Glenn Beck

Video

Howard Kurtz assembled a panel of guests to further comment on the end of Glenn Beck‘s daily Fox News show. While conservative commentator Amy Holmes defended Beck and argued his rhetoric wasn’t much different than the hosts on MSNBC, liberal commentator Bill Press was glad the “ticking time bomb” would soon be gone.

Kurtz described Beck as being “radioactive” and explained:

“The reason he and Roger Ailes’ network are getting a divorce has to do with the question of independence. Beck’s brand was starting to overshadow Fox, much to the consternation of the journalists there, and Beck increasingly wanted to build his own brand without interference.”

Kurtz turned to his panel and wondered why Fox thought they needed to pull the Beck plug? Holmes described Beck as a “force of nature” while Press suggested Beck’s messianic complex resulted in him taking himself too seriously. Press concluded:

“Look at Bill O’Reilly – only Glenn Beck could make Bill O’Reilly look like a statesman. Bill O’Reilly knows, Rush Limbaugh knows – 25 years, they know there are some limits. Beck is such a megalomaniac that he thought he could say anything, and he thought he didn’t need Fox. Well we’ll find out if he needs Fox or not.”

Got to love radio active , leftist bombthrower , Nazi-Referencer ( http://www.adl.org/media_watch/radio/20090810-Bill+Press+Show.htm) Bill Press analyzing Beck . That’s all you need to know about Howard Kurtz’s ‘ Reliable Sources ‘.

  • Probably NOT wrong

I don’t know about you, but I ALWAYS go to a lamestream socialist “Corrupt B-tard” to learn about the Tea Party, Fox News, the conservative movement and every other matter of importance. Where else can you get such hilarious, side-splitting, incredibly stupid, nonsensical, inane, garbage that even a five year old wouldn’t believe ?

The best part of this is watching you Beckies foaming at the mouth. Tell us one more time how much you hate the ‘liberal agenda’. This comment is brought to you my George Soros in association with the Van Jones foundation.

That’s some hard hitting “news” there, howie. Thanks for keeping Beck “irrelevant.” ;)

On one point I agree with howie. A good portion of Fox News employees were very jealous of Glenn and the attention he got. They should have been taking notes.

Oh God not Glenn Beck, A tv/ and radio personality who has no power over laws, money or anyhting else that affects America. God forbid they talk about out bunbling president and his moronic cronies.. Or how Obama pets pay no taxes or how eveyone of his donors has been given a reprieve from the healthcare law, or our illegal venture into lybia. Hell no, Glenn beck is so more important. And they wonder why the left is mocked and ridiculewd oall over the planet

Poor Howie and CNN – they just don’t have a clue.

Unefinbelievable that Howie would have on Bill Press to discuss Beck. Howie is a UPOS, big time.

  • Barack Must Go

Beck will not be gone, not by a long shot. I just believe, for now anyway, possibly as a coutesy or agreement with ” FOX NEWS ” he will not go into detail as to what his future plans ( other than ongoing enterprises ) will be.

I’m betting he will take to the internet, Face Book, etc and settle his unfinished busness and the score with Barack Obama’s attempt to destroy him and shut FOX down.

When Glenn spoke of Obama having deep seeded hatred of white people he did so based on facts on the ground, not blind conservative extreme ideology as falsely claimed by the White House and MSM.

The president along with that MSM are at at least a 50% drop in power and still spiralling downward. This is not lost on Beck as well as many of his loyal followers.

All I can say, because it’s way to soon to know for sure, other than it sucks to be Barack Obama going into the fight of his political life season with Glenn Beck free of his daily TV production responsibilities waiting to pounce.

If you think Trump is bad ( unafraid ) you ain’t seen nuthin yet.

  • BatBoy

    To Howy and Press….

Let me tell you how this works.

If Fox “Pulled the Plug” on Beck, he would be gone now…you know, like what happens to every other on-air personality tht gets fired.

But….Glenn is still here until sometime this fall. This means, Glenn’s going out is his choice and an agreement with Fox to get a suitable replacement.

Now what if Fox replaces him with say……SARAH PALIN….now you will have even more things to complain about.

It is tough being a liberal these days …. isn’t it?

liberal commentator Bill Press was glad the “ticking time bomb” would soon be gone.

Oh, you’re going to be very disappointed, Bill. What is it that makes these people thin Fox needed to pull the plug on Beck? Is it his new Fox contract?

Having Bill Press as a source on a show called “Reliable Sources”? Only on CNN.

No, no. You can tell that Ailes fired Beck by the joint interview they did. That’s standard operating procedure in a firing, is it not?

“Call CNN and MSNBC and ask them if they’d like to have Glenn’s ratings at 5 in the afternoon,” Ailes said.

Ailes emphasized that Fox and Beck will continue to work together.

“We like each other,” he said in a dual interview with Beck. “We’re not drawing pictures of each other on the walls, having staff fights and stealing each other’s food out of the refrigerator or any of that stuff.”

He totally got fired. You can see it right there, if you drop some acid, squint, turn your head 90 degrees and smack yourself in the forehead with a ball peen hammer half a dozen times.

CNN giving advice on how a cable news network can succeed and prosper is like a fat man offering dieting tips. CNN has lost most of its viewers over the last several years, and continues to struggle with its boring mix of political correctness and slanted commentary. By any measure, CNN is a disaster and failure.

Here’s the honest truth: Fox destroyed CNN in the ratings when Glenn Beck held the time slot, and Fox will continue to destroy CNN long after Glenn Beck is gone. That’s the difference between a healthy news network that offers frank, honest coverage and opinion and a moribund network dishing out spin and liberal pablum that masquerades as news.

I love how everytime the angry-left talks about Beck, the numbers increase beyond reality. In the next post, I’m sure we’ll see:

“Beck’s viewership was down 95%, thousands of sponsors were driven away, and almost a billion dollars was lost because of Beck!”

The detachment from reality (or logic) isn’t anything new… but it’s still pretty funny.

The accurate numbers were around 40%, around 400 sponsors and around $40 million of lost revenue; but that is not why Beck was dumped. I’m convinced that Beck was dumped for political reasons. Conservatives, who had come to realize that Beck was poison and bad for conservative movement, convinced Ailes that Beck was a loose cannon that may end up getting Fox blamed for Obama’s re-election.

glen beck here are some things you can fight against . make a lot of noise and you will help Obama more. For God sakes ask and enourage Obama to tax the billionares or have them adopt a road or school or industry or hospital or camp of military or even the epa or something positive to get the usa on track. We wont get usa going on taxing welfare . Get on to the liberal traack please obamma or there is no point in voting democat. Bring back all the military camps all over the world and get the soldiers to build roads and highways and wind turbines and solar plants. Lets use the money for getting usa on track. Get going Obama and redistribute some wealth. Leave the up to $1000000 people alone The rest can pay more and dont allow free rides for GE an others with clever lawyers. . Dont tax 401 ks for the first $6000 a month. Dont tax social security at all but dont pay it to people who have $10 000 a month free and clear of other funds. People earning more than $118,000 can pay for social securuty even if they dont get it .
Dont pay welfare checks to mothers if they dont get voluntarily sterilized. If they cannot feed themselves or family and educate themselves or famiies do not allow them to get extra welfare for babies they should not bring to the world. Ask Seniors to make sure there is a living will so unscrupulous doctors and hospitals do not ring up procedures and surgeries etc that cannot help them. Reject illegals from schools and hospitals. Make way for work permits if usa agrees to slave labour . Pay people working in the fields more and employ only legals Enforce education for all legal usa citizens to age of 16 . Trade schools and schools using more modern methods of learning will avoid kids dropping out. If kids drop out incarcerate them into trade schools instead of prisons. Get going Omama and stop being so friendly . Show your teeth in a snarl instead of a smile to your enemies. Your enemies are snakes, hyennais and wolves and mamma grizzlies and you are behaving like a lamb.Do you want to be crucified ? Get going Obamma and do your liberal stuff .

Please stop the subisides on destructive industries like corn syrup .Tax all industires that cause ill health and obesity . Bann crap junk foods. Request healthy seniors and unemployed and and retired military, teachers . parents and policemen to help in any cause they see fit. Gleen Beck you could take up a cause instead of just sh—–g on obama. daliya

Yes, but that’s all that’s happening. They’re just being moved to different shows. That doesn’t mean they’re losing revenue. Also, advertisers aren’t the main source of revenue for cable channels. They get their money from cable subscriptions.

Ailes emphasized that Fox and Beck will continue to work together.

“We like each other,” he said in a dual interview with Beck. “We’re not drawing pictures of each other on the walls, having staff fights and stealing each other’s food out of the refrigerator or any of that stuff.”

FOX NEWS AND MERCURY RADIO ARTS ANNOUNCE NEW AGREEMENT
(New York, NY) Fox News and Mercury Radio Arts, Glenn Beck’s production company, are proud to announce that they will work together to develop and produce a variety of television projects for air on the Fox News Channel as well as content for other platforms including Fox News’ digital properties. Glenn intends to transition off of his daily program, the third highest rated in all of cable news, later this year.
Roger Ailes, Chairman and CEO of Fox News said, “Glenn Beck is a powerful communicator, a creative entrepreneur and a true success by anybody’s standards. I look forward to continuing to work with him.”

Glenn Beck said: “I truly believe that America owes a lot to Roger Ailes and Fox News. I cannot repay Roger for the lessons I’ve learned and will continue to learn from him and I look forward to starting this new phase of our partnership.”

Joel Cheatwood, SVP/Development at Fox News, will be joining Mercury Radio Arts effective April 24, 2011. Part of his role as EVP will be to manage the partnership and serve as a liaison with the Fox News Channel.

Roger Ailes said: “Joel is a good friend and one of the most talented and creative executives in the business. Over the past four years I have consistently valued his input and advice and that will not stop as we work with him in his new role.”

  • Paleoconservatarian

    . . . spinning those conspiracy theories. . .

You mean those proven relationships between world actors that much of the press ignores?

There just too much here. Look, David Zurawik. I get you’d rather have had Van Jones, communist and truther, remain comfortably low profile so as to keep hidden the radical underbelly of this administration – the better to conceal the press’s own proclivities, which are out of step with the country’s basic values and help explain its vociferous, advocacy prone support of Obama. This was perhaps best demonstrated by the press’s collective refusal to examine how such a radical individual as Van Jones could have been vetted by the administration without raising red flags – an administration that the average, independent voter might otherwise assume didn’t enthusiastically share elements of Jones’ ideology. Such, you say, caused toxicity in the environment. The toxicity? Lay it on the administration, for communism is not an ideology with which to make common cause in a free society.

That’s just one of the ridiculous takes that abound in this ‘analysis.’ As is usual, so think are the lies and characterization they’re too voluminous to debunk in one fell swoop; such as Press’s repugnant narrative serving intonation that Beck wasn’t talking in general terms about matters of faith but said Japan was suffering some sort of divine retribution. In truth, Beck was one of the few opinion hosts who dedicated air time lauding the character of the Japanese people and highlighting their predicament as one worthy of charitable support. Such just goes to show that many who carry forward these narratives are without honor or truthfulness and that the ends for which they strive are fully morally ‘divorced’ from the means by which they would achieve them.

  • Paleoconservatarian

And what, Howard Kurtz, did Beck “make up?”

That is the correct way to analyze this, I think.

We hear that Matt Lauer, Meredith Vierra, and Katie Couric will soon be out of work, and there is speculation what they’ll be doing next, if anything.

Meanwhile, we know Beck has his very successful radio show — and now that he will soon be able to leave New York, he’ll be able to do the show from a state that doesn’t take so much of his income. Beck also has two websites with growing readership.

In my opinion, the best comparison to Beck is Oprah Winfrey leaving her daily syndicated TV show, but at the same time keeping her magazine and starting up a new TV network. I suspect more people visit Beck’s websites daily than watch Oprah’s OWN — and Beck does not have to negotiate with cable operators to get on the air.

  • Bad Wolf

If things get boring at Fox, Jesse Ventura or Alex Jones seem primed to replace Glenn on the soapbox.

Kurtz has it wrong again, but what’s new?

The reason he has this opinion is that, for so long as Mr. Beck was on Fox, NO OTHER CABLE NEWS STATION could ever hope to garner enough viewers to win the time slot.

Mr. Ailes will find within one year after Mr. Beck’s departure, Fox will lose its dominance of the 5-6 slot.
