Katty Kay: Brits Consider America’s Birther Circus ‘Alarming And Depressing’

video

On MSNBC’s Morning Joe, British journalist Katty Kay conceded the controversy over President Obama‘s birth was an example of “one of those times” when Brits look at Americans in disbelief. Kay admitted Brits could “sit here very smugly and say ‘look, those crazy Americans, they’re doing it again.’”

But aside from the entertainment value of a classic American circus, Kay says the Donald Trump-led media cavalcade over the president’s birth certificate is “actually fundamentally, pretty alarming and very depressing.”

Of course, it’s not just the Brits. My German and French friends, colleagues and associates are shaking their heads in disbelief as well. The Birthers and their Tea Party and Republican cohorts have invited ridicule and brought disgrace to our nation.

No, they’re not. The Royal Family is paying for the wedding, with some contribution from the bride’s family. The only public funds are for security.

Do you really think many of us give a rats-a$$ what the Brits think? As we speak, that cloud covered island nation is tripping all over itself about the marriage of two people who are pretty much insignificant in real world terms. The only thing that makes them any different then the rest of us is that they are relatives of an archaic and irrelevant tradition.

To quote Jerry Seinfeld, “it’s a circus act.”

My Brit friends and colleagues tell me the interest in the States is much greater.

“Still, in the USA TODAY poll, only 38% of Americans say Obama definitely was born in the USA, and 18% say he probably was. Fifteen percent say he probably was born in another country, and 9% say he definitely was born elsewhere.”

Apparently 62% of all Americans can count themselves as birthers.

I guess that’s why most media sources here have scaled back there reporting.

A great deal, but they seem to belief that the investment is wise because of the expected positive economic uptick and the direct revenues anticipated. And, the UK makes a great deal off the Royal Family.

While I do believe that the whole birther thing has been crazy, just look how many stories Mediaite has on it, I don’t care what the Brits think, or the Germans or the French. They can all go pound sand for all I care. The Brits and French need to just go back to there own War for Oil in Libya.

Like it or not, the Raygun/Poppy/Clinton/W legacy is globalism, an international economy. That seems to necessitate that we be aware of our image in the world.

I’m guessing considerably less than the economic benefit from the actual event, all of the onlookers along the road who will be out for the day, foreign tourists and news crews, trinket and souvenir sales, plus the advertising value of having pageantry broadcast around the world.

A beach bar singer on the Isle of Wight has been arrested for performing the song Kung Fu Fighting. Simon Ledger stands accused of racially aggravated harassment.

He was entertaining a crowd enjoying the Easter sunshine when a man reported to be of Chinese origin took offence at the lyrics and complained to police.

What’s funny about this is that the British are, in a way, responsible for the whole birther thing.

In 1701, when it became apparent that Queen Anne of Britain would not have any direct descendants, a law was passed making Sophia of Hanover, an electorate of the Holy Roman Empire (basically, a German principality), the next in line. She died before she could take the throne, but her son became King George I. He didn’t even speak English, and it wasn’t really until his great-grandson, George III, that they even considered themselves Kings of Britain first and Electors of Hanover second. The American Founding Fathers, you may recall, had no love for monarchy in general and even less for George III, scion of the House of Hanover, and inserted the natural-born citizen requirement for the presidency in part to avoid anything like a House of Hanover situation in the U.S. The natural-born citizen clause is, of course, is at the root of whole birther controversy.

The circus currently going on in Britain, by the way, is over the marriage of George III’s great-great-great-great-great-great grandson, William, whose family name would have been Saxe-Coburg-Gotha had it not been for WWI (by dint of his grandfather, William is also a member of the House of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg).

What are the odds that you would find Katty Kay a reporter from England making a comment about Obama’s birth certificate and then accusing the people who are vetting the president as racist?

These Obama supporters, much of the MSM, the crazies like Matthews and O’Donnell, 80% of African Americans, journoListers such as O’Donnell, , Ben Smith, Jeffrey Toobin et al., think because you call someone RACIST it will stop them from ferreting out the truth about Barack Hussein Obama II.

That is not going to happen, most Americans do not care anymore if people call them racist because they know they are not racist; what the majority of Americans want is the inept president Obama out of the White House and they will have that change in 2012.

Obama’s father never married his mother because, he was already married and ‘apparently in American’ you cannot marry if you are already married, even if you are an atheist like Obama’s mother was is it against the law, not only a religious law but a legal law too.

Thus one can make the argument that he may be an illegitimate child and an illegitimate president at least according to his father’s Immigration files attached below.

I have to agree with the Brits on this one. I guess it makes me unpatriotic to agree with the Brits even though it means I’m supporting my President despite the fact that I don’t agree with half of what he believes in. The Tea Party and the Republican Party are ignorant…diverting attention from real issues….the last remnants of a dying religion. People waiting for a guy to ploop from a cloud and save them. People with real minds see them for what they truly are…a breeding ground for pedophiles and incest. Men and women that walk around the planet acting like they’re better than everyone else. Buildings with people that have no concept of spirituality willing to run over everyone else for their own personal gains. They talk about building walls within their religion and they should do such a thing. Build walls and not step out of them so that the rest of the planet doesn’t have to listen to or witness their stupidity. They talk about what this country was built on with little regard for just how brilliant and innovative its founders were. They are stupid…ignorant human beings…unfit to polish the shoes of this country’s founders. Our only hope to improve our school systems is if they all start homeschooling their children rather than let them continue to bring their ignorance into the schools where civilized people like to learn.

While I wish Prince William and Catherine well, IF their marriage should fail, THAT will probably (and SHOULD) be the END of the Brittish Monarchy!

Love them or hate them the monarchy has been around a thousand years, and it’ll probably be around for another thousand years.

The monarchy brings in money from tourists year round. Right now its bringing in a ton of money from the thousands of tourists who’ve flocked to London to see the royal wedding, and buy out all the cutesy wedding souveniers. A major boost for the economy as many of those tourists will hang around for an extended holiday and drop even more money.

Americans on the other hand are obsessed with the birther issue and thats only helping to bring the economy down even more. What sane business/company or tourist, will want to keep coming here with the never ending bickering and fighting that goes on? Once the birther issue has died off, if it ever does, another assinine “cause” will take its place and make the US look even more rediculous to the world. Such is the lure of the United States of America these days.

I’ve heard it in London, I’ve heard it in Frankfurt, I’ve heard in in Santiago, I’ve heard it in Dubai, I’ve heard it in Riyadh, I’ve heard it in Sydney and Brisbane — “Yanks have lost their minds.”

Glad you’re all so happy about it.

journalist Katty Kay conceded the controversy over President Obama’s birth was an example of “one of those times” when Brits look at Americans in disbelief.

Ahhhhhh Katty….we Americans look at the Brits with disbelief just about every day!

I know…I Know…you have to say this to keep your gig in MSNBC…but…but…

But as your perspective is so limited, and Katty’s point of view has noe been heard by millions of people, your point of view is irrelevant in this context. I realize it was equally irrelevant yesterday, but now it’s been confirmed.

Good Lord what a f*cking phoney!

I realize it’s source of severe irritation to you, but there are Americans who not only are convinced that there are other countries, but actually communicate with the residents thereof. Mirabile dictu!

Kay is right the Birther Circus is alarming and depressing, but so is the Royal Wedding circus. “Crazy Americans” may believe the Birther crap, but more crazy Brits support and believe in the useless British monarchy.

What is it those amoral philandering arrogant elitists in Buckingham palace do anyway? They are less relevant than “Big Ben”.

Elizabeth comes by her elitism honestly. She’s the frakkin’ Queen of England, after all. As for the philandering and arrongance, I’d be willing to bet if you got your extended family together, you’d have quite a few philanderers and arrogant gits around, too (I know my family’s that way. I think it has something to do with human nature.)

And your Big Ben reference, turned on its head, is exactly correct: the Royal Family *is* Big Ben, and the Tower of London, and Stonehenge, and Hadrian’s Wall, etc., etc., etc. They personify the tourism-friendly aspect of the UK that brings in billions of dollars.

Keep in mind also, that the royal family, though they cost the taxpayer a bit in security and an allowance or two, are largely self-funding tourist magnets.

This wedding is a major touristic triumph.

Unshockingly, that makes no sense at all. Unless you think that news personalities having perky names is bad for business.

This typifies the ignorance of the “Right Wing Conservative” base. This sad soul is, alarmed and depressed, that someone is named “Katty Kay”. As if this is some urgent issue, facing the world. This just proves, to me, “Conservatives” are incapable of dealing, with serious issues. This is why “Birtherism” is so popular among “Right Wing” nuts. The issue, of “Birtherism”, for them, requires no facts, no evidence and most importantly no thinking. And now the world should mourn, for “More Liberty5″, because he/she is “alarmed” and “depressed”, because of some one’s name. “More Liberty5″ is truly a simple minded individual. So, “More Liberty5″, stick to issues like, how someone got the name Barack Hussein Obama, and leave real issues like War, National Debt and Health Care, to the Grown-Ups.
