Oliver North Talks About South American Drug Trafficking, For A Change

video

There is no trace of irony in this Fox And Friends Sunday segment about Mexico’s drug war, in which they brought on Oliver North as an expert in cocaine cartels world-wide. And why should there be? Honestly, who would be a more knowledgeable source of how to infiltrate a narco-insurgency than a guy who spent most of the 80s embroiled in controversy involving the funding of Contra rebels by smuggling marijuana and cocaine across the border?

For a little bit of background, North has had a regular spot on Fox News and Fox.com profiling the drug trade in South America and Afghanistan. So he’s pretty much their go-to guy when it comes to discussing the narco-terrorism epidemic.

Osiel Cardenas-Guillen would have been more knowledgeable, but he was just sentenced to 25 years in prison. The drug smugglers do not want to appear on Fox right now.

The worst thing that Col North did was leak the story to the Washington Times that the Sandinista government in Nicaragua was collaborating with the Medillin cartel to smuggle cocaine into the US. This story destroyed the DEA operation and led directly to the assassination of Barry Seal, the pilot who had been working with the DEA. Pictures from a camera on Seal’s plane showed Federico Vaughn, the cartels contact within the Sandinista government, and Pablo Escobar, loading cocaine onto the airplane at Los Brasiles airstrip outside Managua in 1984.

North leaked the story in an attempt to get congressional funding for the Contras. Seal was later murdered by a Columbian hit squad in Louisiana.

No irony indeed. As a Republican apparatchik one wouldn’t expect Fox News to expose that which they’ve so dutifully helped cover up and obfuscate since their founding.

Iran Contra was America’s reward for not convicting fully the previous Watergate era Republican criminals. The drug dealing was the among the least repulsive actions the Reagan Administration was extensively engaged in in South America.

Assassinations of political and union leaders, civilians, and even nuns is our legacy and North’s in the region, missing no chance to crush violently any challenge to their corporate benefactors; training the perpetrators in the School Of The Americas in Georgia, and basically funding any dictatorship or right wing military willing to butcher the peasants and citizens crying out for justice.

Only in a country largely ignorant of our own history could this kind of mendacity be peddled on our air waves without challenge, and one that has sold a broadcast license to a political party to blare their revisionist history 24/7.

What is it, still 60% of Fox viewers still believe Saddam was behind 9/11 and had WMD’s?

Drew, I’m not sure I welcomed you to Mediaite officially.

I see you’re following the site pattern really well. Random stories about FNC, that aren’t terribly relevant, but can be used to attack them, their audience, and their talent (like this one)… Stories that can be manipulated to support and promote Rachel Maddow’s program… and then of course the all important, “Hey look at what NBC is doing,” story to support the corporate masters.

Welcome to Mediaite! You’re exactly the kind of “journalist” they like!

Oh hey, and here’s something fun!

Everyone’s favorite Olbermann (assuming you only know one), wrote the following in his recent Daily KOS diary, talking about the recent charges that MSNBC is “all white,” and his complaints against the Tea Partiers is thusly hypocritical… and something about Chris Matthews:

This is standard right wing bullsh*t: if you’re 99% guilty of a given vice, hide behind the 1% and use the charge against the other guy. If he’s 0% guilty of the same thing, make up something or twist something and pump it out through your sycophants and suddenly it’s “glass houses time.”

My bone with that statement [from Matthews, apparently] was, of course, the percentage of the country which hasn’t grown at all and now shows up at Tea Parties or watching the anchors-of-color-free zone of Fox…

    http://www.dailykos.com/comments/2010/2/28/81831/7309/108#c108

Alright, so who notices what doesn’t quite make sense here?

In the first paragraph, he says that MSNBC isn’t “guilty,” because a very small percentage of their staff are minorities. Apparently, MSNBC can “hide behind the 1%,” because as KO says in another paragraph, “There are in fact 23 minority anchors, free-lancers, paid contributors, and NBC people who appear, on MSNBC.” Oooh… 23! Out of how many again? And just for arguments sake… they are?

    But it gets better!

He then says that attacking MSNBC as a response, is simply a diversion and a “right-wing” tactic. Hmmm… interesting.

But, how does he back this up? Why, he goes on to attack FOX!

So first he complains that the Tea Partiers are using a “tactic” to distract folks from the “real issue,” and focus attention on a secondary target… that being, MSNBC. And that’s bad. And to further justify himself, he turns around and does the SAME THING, and falsely (and with a fairly grandiose lie) attacks a secondary target, FNC.

    HA! HILARIOUS!

There you go Drew! There you go Colby! There you go Mediaite! A little bit of balance… was that so hard?

I have to agree there is no irony in FOX, particularly in the guise of its direct RNC programming offer, FOX & Friends, having Colonel North. I also agree that when the subject of drug cartels comes up, what better informed guest than America’s foremost drug kingpin, Colonel North? If the question is chicken, go to Colonel Sanders; if the question is drugs, go to Colonel North. Experiences counts.

Ashley: What does your 12:52 Hours post have to do with the topic? I can’t find any connection.

Again, still not “Ashley,” still just INB. If you think I’m “Ashley,” I should would love to know why, and what your evidence for that theory is.

As for my 12:52… well, the thread was pretty much to attack the messenger, being that the massager was FNC. You know, it’s what left-wingers like to do when they don’t really have much more to talk about… or they’re bored.

I thought the story I posted was much more interesting, and showed a REAL issue worth discussing. So while you, in your 7:27 post repeated what the other lefties have already said, and called “irony,” I thought I’d post some real irony.

Of course, if it weren’t for my post, that story would never make it to Mediaite. They kinda spoke negatively about KO last week… that’s enough for this quarter.

Anyway… anything you want to say about my story? Do you also find it “ironic,” or are you too scared to criticize KO?

A google search of “John Floyd Hull” and “cocaine” shows that Oliver North is one of the most shameless men on the planet.

At the very first, I’d choose to tell thanks to you for this informative article. Secondly, I had prefer to doubt wheresoever I can discover lot more info regarding your article. I arrived right here via Bing & can not get any other associated web internet sites along this matter. How do I subscribe for your web blog? I’d prefer to bind to your updates as they come along! I had a query to question but I forgot what it absolutely was… anyway, thankyou.

Oliver North was a narco-trafficker and a convicted felon. That the Republicans relented so he could be of more use to them is no excuse for his criminal activity. He and Dawn Fall were involved in the destruction of classified materials to cover up the U.S. involvement in Iran Contra drug and other illegal activities. He purchased equipment for his home from Government money and was given immunity for everything he did against the law and at the behest of the Bush’s arrogant narcissistic sociopathy, which continues.
