Rep. John Boehner: “This Health Care Bill Will Ruin Our Country”

As news of the Democrats dropping the “deem and pass” in favor of separate votes in the Senate, the hours are inching closer to a time when we might have a conclusive health care reform bill passed in this country. At this point it’s hard not to have an opinion about a bill that will require Americans to either buy health insurance (at government subsidized-prices) or pay for it on their taxes, but few have stronger words than Rep. John Boehner who has called the passing of the reform bill “Armageddon.”

That’s a little bit of extreme rhetoric, don’t you think? Armageddon is a giant meteor heading for earth, not 19 million Americans being able to have government-subsidized health insurance.

Actually, Armageddon has nothing to do with meteorites or health care. It’s a Biblical term: a Greek translation of the Hebrew Har Megiddon. It refers to the valley of Megiddo which was the sight of many violent battles and is supposed to be the scene of a future final great battle. It’s a frequently miss-used term. Politicians, like many people, tend to use hyperbole. Rep. Boehner seems to feel that the current health care bill is seriously flawed, and has the potential for serious negative results. Given the current provisions of the bill, that seems to be a reasonable concern.

Allow me to fix Mr. Boner’s quote:

“This Health Care Bill will ruin ‘Our Country’.”

Time to take “our country” back. Time to water that good ole tree-o-liberty.

It’s all code words for the GOP, and their playing with fire.

Conservatives have set themselves up against the health care bill that expecting anything less than Armageddon won’t live up to all the attack and false claims they’ve made about the bill.

It is a shame (to me) that progressives feel that they must grow the government to ever larger and larger size in order to accomplish their social justice agenda. I am actually in favor of so much of what you folks want to accomplish. But I am strongly against using the government (power and control) to enforce your wishes. I am dismayed to see that (no real surprise here) so many elected officials have lost sight of their first duty…to protect and defend the constitution.

I still am hoping that enough people in the House will stand up to party line agenda and vote against this bill.

It’s a shame (to me) that John Boehner and the Republicans feel they must lie about the health care legislation to defeat it, not because it’s bad legislation, but because they feel they must oppose anything and everything Democrats propose in order to score points. If Obama came out for vanilla ice cream today, tomorrow Republicans would promote anything else, including that exclusive three girls on a cup video commercial for their favorite.
