Report: CBS News Boss Rips Early Show For Dropping The Ball Monday

» 3 comments

After a weekend when CBS had, arguably, the best 60 Minutes story in recent memory (the debunking of Greg Mortenson’s “Three Cups of Tea” and his charity)–along with other notable stories–the boss at CBS News was not pleased with the way the network lost momentum Monday morning.

In an email obtained by the New York Post‘s Page Six, recently-appointed CBS News president David Rhodes slammed staffers at CBS’ Early Show for a “bad Monday morning” after a big weekend. “We broke major news,” the paper quotes Rhodes. “Let’s get with it. Where’s our reporting? Make sure it’s in our show.”

The recently-revamped Early Show continues to struggle in third place behind NBC’s TODAY and ABC’s Good Morning America. A spokesperson for the Early Show declined to comment on the email, according to the Post.

    WOW, did CBS actually hire a competent managerial leader. We’ll see.

    Should have never got rid of Maggie and Smith. That was not the problem. Dumbass.

    @Gasket
    the Early Show team change took place before Rhodes took over

    further, if you look at recent morning show ratings, CBS Early while still deeply in 3rd place is up year-over-year…

    that may be due the newsier nature of the time period (MidEast turmoil, budget battle, although last year was the healthcare hubbub)…
