Romney Tells Detroit Crowd That He Drives A Chevy Pickup And Mustang, His Wife Drives Two Cadillacs

video

Mitt Romney cruised over to Michigan earlier today to deliver his economic policy address at Ford Field in Detroit. After commenting, once again, on the height of the trees in the state, he segued into his collection of American cars to appeal to the motor city.

Romney opened, “I actually love this state. This feels good being back in Michigan. The trees are the right height. The streets are just right. I like the fact that most of the cars I see are Detroit-made automobiles.” Apparently there’s no left turns in Michigan ever.

He continued, “I drive my mustang and a Chevy pickup truck and Ann drives a couple of Cadillacs. I used to have a Dodge truck, so I used to have all three covered.”

His wife Ann drives “a couple of Cadillacs” hopefully not simultaneously. Romney’s aides told reporters that she has two Cadillac SRXs. The luxury mid-size SUV ranges from $35,500 to $54,500. An average estimate would place the value of her two vehicles at about $90,000.

Seamus the dog must be very comforted to know that he’s being carted around atop an American vehicle.

    This is important why?

  • The Real Royal Emperor

You have to be in the 1% if your wife drives two (2) Cadillacs?

  • The Vicar of Gloveby

Romney is rich and successful guy. But, be sure to whip up some outrage that he has four cars.

This guy is a walking and talking robotic joke.

This is sad.  Not because Romney is rich.  But because when he says these things he’s trying to pander to the ‘average Amurican’, and he’s just so utterly terrible at it.

  • The Vicar of Gloveby

Did Romney spend his own money?

Do Mitt and his wife take separate motorcades on vacations and sightseeing trips?

Do they buy their own gas?

And that changes the fact that conspicuous consumption in times of economic distress have always been deemed tastleless, tacky and tawdry, just how?

Who gives a shit? I could care less if he has 15 cars. He is successful & can spend his money on whatever he chooses.
So what if Obama takes 50,000 vacations. So what if Obama sells 15 million children’s books. They are all rich. They are all out of touch with working class families. I only care about which politician will get the government out of our everyday lives. Haven’t found but 1 that has a track record of believing less government is a good thing.

Talking to Americans out of work, how stupid do you have to be to say that your wife drives not 1, but 2 Cadillacs….This guy is beyond robotic, he is just a moron….Good for him that he has done well, but do you just want to rub it into people how well?

Negative. I know/work with many people who are near the opposite of the 1%ers on the financial scale and they drive BMWs, Mercedes and Hummers so decked out you could see them from space. That might explain why they’re the opposite of 1%ers. Also explains why the tax code/entitlement system needs to be refined. But I digress…

I think Romney was trying to say that he and Ann drive cars made in Detroit. Even though he could afford fancy foreign sports cars, he and Ann are creating jobs for the auto industry. His plan to cut taxes will let more Americans be able to have a couple of Cadillacs. America, America, God shed His grace on thee, and crown the good with brotherhood …

So they each own a couple of fancy cars. So what? It’s not as though they have them just to showcase their opulence. They need the extra vehicles … a set for each of their multi-million dollar mansions.

Yep, the Romneys are regular folks, and Mitt will gladly bet you $10,000 to prove otherwise.

Hi, I’m Mitt Romney. By the way, I love your house and what you’ve done with it. And such wonderful children you have. I’d never put them on my roof and drive to Canada. Hahahaha.

My wife had the help order a wallpaper that looks very much like this for one of our Luxembourg chalets. The blue is just right. And the thickness: apropo. You know, goshdarnit, we should have more people with taste like yours being the White House designer and starting up your own countries and making America great again.

God bless you. You’re making the most serious decision of your life.

Yes it is biblical to say that the government sets up laws to make people be merciful. In the law of Moses the people were commanded to forgive all debt every 7 years. They were commanded to not take interest on debt from their countryman and they were commanded to redistribute basic wealth (land) every 50 years.
This way you actually keep up good capitalism which is that the resources stay in private hands arnd are not concentrated in the hands of a few. Socialism is when the resources are controlled by very few people. But if you take Wallmart the essence of socialism is present. There used to be thousands of small businesses (mom and pop stores) The resources were wide spread in private hands. Now there are a very few people controlling over 1,000,000 million others who are no controlling any resources by their own.

You think Mittens isn’t a liar?

  • Hout Bosques

Because of the crowd. That was an …. AWESOME crowd. Yeah, Obama can brag all he wants about Cairo & Moscow & Minneapolis & Denver etc etc etc, but that’s a freakin’ NFL FOOTBALL stadium Mittens is speaking in, & to fill a venue that big, in fact to overflowing (given the on-field chair space), that’s got to be 80,000 anyway. In Michigan! No wonder Mittens is calling Michigan his “home state”, & presumably, in the tradition of how the mafia call the big godfather the capo di capi tutti, his state home di stati tutti. I don’t know how he did it – he must just be THAT charismatic. And note: he didn’t even have to sing America The Beautiful; that HAS to mean his message is really going great with ‘the folks’. I’m surprised the folks in the stadium didn’t whip out their Bics & do the butane candle wave. And that STUMP speech, the one with the ‘trees are all the right height’ line: it’s either a great campaign line, or the GREATEST campaign line EVUH! With a crowd of this size, I’m surprised Santorum even continues on, not to mention Obama; once Obama gets wind of this AWESOME crowd, I fully expect him to give up running against Inevitable Romney & maybe go back to community organizing. What a crowd! Also: one way to tell how pumped the crowd is? Just count the empty seats; it’s a rule of thumb, but it works, because it means the crowd’s up on its feet cheering like mad. (Okay, it’s not the only conceivable explanation for those empty seats, but really folks, those terrible seats, you’d get a kink in your neck from looing up at President Romney.

Romney wants to raise the  retirement age, but owns two Cadillac’s. Loves the tall trees and speaks to twelve hundred in a stadium that holds thousands. Romney paid  13.7% effective taxes on his $21.7 million in 2010. The average Jane and Joe in America will pay much more on less income. The current 112th Congress has passed more anti-abortion legislation than any jobs production. Romney’s comment, “I’m not concerned about the very poor”, created a firestorm further dividing the electorate. Candidates taking pledges to other than their immediate constituents borders on treason. Read the TEA leaves. The economy is sputtering along slowly while Congress openly and blatantly protects the tax exposure of the super elite. Santorum and Romney continue to showcase their shallow brain mass. Arguing over who’s the most conservative and discrediting each other sinks their character into the deepest realm of out-of-touch. It’s not how many Detroit vehicles you own, it’s not remembering the tall trees. It’s not about which religion one espouses and lives, and it’s not about the past accomplishments. It’s about caring for the American people, American jobs and equal distribution of tax pain across the board. We need new blood in the House and Senate to take charge and work for the people and not the puppeteers like Grover Norquist. It’s not your religion, your race, your income that matter, it’s the ability to live your life your way and not the way the career politicians want. Career politicians have no business telling a woman they have to take any medical procedure as that should be between the doctor and the woman. Period.

    Forget the cars.

Who the hell praises trees for being the right height?  What on earth is he talking about?

Please, if someone ever gets to ask a question at one of his events, I will give you a week’s worth of my salary if you ask something like:

“Hello Gov Romney.  I am from (insert your state here) and I have had to stand by while you repeatedly praised Michigan’s trees for being just the right height.  So I was wondering if you could comment on the height of the trees in (insert your state here).  Are they too tall, too short, or just right?

    Thank you.”

OMG guys! Romney made himself into a $100+ millionaire and owns 4 or more cars… What a bad bad bad bad bad bad bad bad bad bad man!!!!! I’ve decided so everyone can live equally, since we all want to bash a guy for making money LEGALLY AND THE AMERICAN WAY, that we add up all the income every American makes and divide that by every American and split all the money equally! Would that be fair enough to OWS’s and my wannabe fellow Republicans???

Too bash a guy for making himself rich is the Democratic way to do things… Boy has my party lost its way.

You do realize that Mitt’s problem is connecting to people, right? You go to a city which has gone thru the worst economic hardship throughout the recession, you try to downplay the whole “I’m a rich guy that wanted your city’s biggest industry to go bankrupt”. Mentioning that his wife drives not 1 but 2 Cadillacs is not the best way to connect to people who lost their jobs, their homes, everything they owned, and were only able to recover as a result of government intervention (something Romney opposed).

    > Apparently there’s no left turns in Michigan ever.

Actually, we can turn left on red onto a one-way here, unless “no turn on red” is posted.

Romney is your classical rich republican who will say anything to get elected so he can turn around and do the exact opposite once in office.  Just like with Newt Gingrich or Rick Santorum, if their lips are moving……they are telling lies.

Romney committed  a serious political blunder by telling everyone about his extravagant life style of both him and his wife owning 2 cars apiece, especially when he said his wife owned 2 Cadillacs. In doing so he separated himself even further from the average voter who is struggling to get by.  You would think he would have had enough common sense not to say.  I understand why the press are all over this, just like some of the stupid mistakes the other candidates have said without thinking first.

Because Mitt Romney is running for the highest office in the land & he hyped this up as a big event in his home state of Michigan, where the trees are the perfect height, they gave the great lakes & inland lakes in the parts. He also told them he loves cars. He himself owns a Mustang & a Ford F-150 (he should’ve stopped there but…) & Ann owns 2 Cadillacs. Perhaps it’s not important but if that’s the case, neither is he.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Theresa-Darklady-Reed/581698361 Theresa ‘Darklady’ Reed

It might surprise to you learn that the “Royal Obamas” include the President of the United States of America, his wife (the First Lady) and their two well-behaved daughters.

For some reason this particular President and First Lady are supposed to live on crackers and water from inside a tent in order to keep the Republicans happy, whereas the previous White House tenant was praised for getting the country into two horrific, budget killing, international reputation shredding wars.
    Weird, huh?

It’s not really about the cars he or his wife drive. It’s about his disconnect. The purpose of telling the Michiginians about the trees & his cars was to show them he was just like them. Instead, he showed his complete disconnect from a community that was hurt by the recession probably worse than anyone else in the country. What makes it even worse is that he grew up in Michigan. Not saying he should drop out of the race for this but this was supposed to be his big event in Michigan & he ended up looking like a joke.
