Rubio on Radical Islam: We Didn’t Avoid ID’ing Nazis as Enemy to Not Offend Germans
At the CBS Democratic debate last night, moderator John Dickerson brought up Marco Rubio‘s criticism that in order to combat the threat of terrorism, the U.S. needs to first be willing to say radical Islam is a threat. All three Democratic candidates declined to say so.
Rubio appeared on ABC’s This Week this morning, and George Stephanopoulos asked him for his reaction.
Rubio said, “That would be like saying we weren’t at war with Nazis ’cause we were afraid to offend some Germans who may have been members of the Nazi party, but weren’t violent themselves.”
He reiterated his belief that the U.S. is at war with radical Islam and it’s a “clash of civilizations” with a very clear scenario: they win or we do.
“Of course all Muslims are not all members of violent jihadist groups,” Rubio said. “But there is a global jihadist movement in the world motivated by their interpretation of Islam… and it needs to be confronted for what it is.”
