Stephen Colbert Welcomes ‘Fresh Faced’ GOP Candidate Stephen Colbert, Teases ‘Major Announcement’

Last night on The Colbert Report, Stephen Colbert was lamenting the fact that the GOP presidential race was already basically over with every candidate who wasn’t Mitt Romney already having had their fleeting moment in the spotlight. Why weren’t there any more “fresh faced” hopefuls out there? In the middle of his despair, though, he became aware of the fact that he himself was currently polling at 5% in South Carolina.

Clearly, this changes everything.

Colbert joked about the fact that he was beating Jon Huntsman, a candidate who had once specifically courted the “Colbert bump.” Colbert’s explanation was that the bump must have reflected off of Huntsman and back to him.

“That happens in the rare instances where my guest is even whiter than me,” Colbert said.

Colbert then teased that he would be making a “Major Announcement” on tonight’s show. What will it be? We don’t know but we can only assume that it will change everything forever.

Colbert polls at 5% because teabaggers are too stupid to understand parody or satire and think Colbert’s character is real.

I hope Colbert decides to run in SC. It will be nice to see a true Conservative on the ticket.

Hope Colbert runs, he has nothing to lose!!

This person will probably have a last minute “surge” taking Ron Paul out of the race

More like taking Huntsman out of the race.  Notice the stats.  Anyone who finishes less than Colbert is done.

This worries me, oh well, at least SC is a “winner take all state”.  If Colbert wins SC, that just wastes time/money for everyone else.

Or because Colbert is SC’s native son?

This is one man that I think could take me down.  Hope he doesn’t run anywhere else.

I disagree. I think that 5% are actually smart! It is the other 95% who are lacking in intelligence.

Not true. Colbert had a great op-ed piece published in the leading SC newspaper, The State, pointing out exactly what he was up to. The support wasn’t from ignorant redneck Southern bigot dupes, it was from SC hipsters.

He won’t – not this time. He’s running that SuperPac, & in order to even try to put himself on that ballot (He tried with both parties in 2008; the SC Rs wouldn’t allow him to apply, & the SC Ds ruled against his eligibility on residency grounds.) he would have to go to extraordinary lengths to get the permission of the FEC to shut down his SuperPac.

But I’m on “record” here, numerous times, betting he’s going to be on the ballot in 2016, & seriously.

  • Hout Bosques

    Yes he does: his SuperPac.

It’s not feasible; even if the FEC let him shut down the SuperPac, he’d still have to get on to the ballot somehow – & there’s just 6 working days left to do all that.

It’s not going to happen … this time.

He has the money to launch a huge write in campagn.

I’m predicting a giant write in campaign similar to the one he tried with Rick Parry, only this time for himself in his home state. Is it an open primary where any citizen can votre?  I’d love to see him finish 3rd. What a resounding “stop this stupid shit” that would be,

After what we’ve experiencing with the the Republican Presidential Show, A Stephen Colber presidential run makes perfect sense. I don’t think he could beat Obama, but he would come closer than any of the current Republican contenders.

Cobert is a “native son” of South Carolina, but has not traveled there often. You need a little more than than going for you in a primary. Michele Bachmann was born in Iowa, but has moved on since, so that didn’t help her earlier this month in the caucus.

    Stephen
Colbert is a comedian! The other Repugnican candidates are bad jokes!
