Pressed For Info On Japan Disaster, WH Press Secretary Says: ‘You Have Reporters In Japan’

Video

Well, this was a bit awkward… ABC correspondent Jake Tapper asked White House Press Secretary Jay Carney about what specific information the White House has on the goings-on in Japan. To which Carney basically replied: “Find out for yourself.”

I’m standing here at the White House. I think you have reporters in Japan. You have reporters, including ones here, that get the technical, detailed information on what we know from the NRC, from the Department of Energy.

Tapper seemed slightly less than pleased with that response.

Man, you’ve got yourself a keeper there BO!

There’s your transparency. We have prima donna’s mugging for cameras and getting stories fundamentally wrong. Our reporters don’t know any better because the government seems to include them as sources of information and not the other way around. Que James Clapper and Leon Panetta assessing the longevity of Mubarak based on what gets talked about on MSNBC. Here’s hoping the WH is watching NHK and not Dianne Sawyer cut to herself for 10 seconds to show us her ability to cry and emote.

I thought Bush’s four guys were smug bullshitters, but this guy! Come back, Gibbs. All is forgiven.

  • ModerateMan

How much money does our federal government get from us for foreign intelligence and relations? It’s obviously billions and billions of dollars thrown away.

Again..You libs happy? seriously? Rome is burning and you(you) are making excuses for this?

  • OxyCon

Sure is alot easier being an Obama loving mainstream media hack then it is being an Obama defending flack, eh Carney?

  • Paul G

I don’t care if this is Mediate, Drudge, Rush, NewsBusters.. HotAir, or Huffingtonpost… Seriously u libs? This world is crumbling and REALLY? you guys think we need more gay rights? more taxes? more single women in the military? REALLY? how’s ur progressive world been working for us/you? answer: NOT VERY FUCKING GOOD!

  • Jax_n_Jill

Okay, when Clapper was befuddled when Sawyer asked about the terrorist arrests in the UK, we were told by the WH we should be glad he does not spend his time watching the news and now???

You know, I’ve said on several occasions that Obama’s propensity for falling in love with the sound of his own voice was a really good thing for the Republicans because his love of the limelight, public adulation and grandiloquent vapidness means that there will be a vast pool of his past statements which can be used to show the country what a hollow, lying fraud he is.

Tapper is standing at the White House. Perhaps he could brief us on the lead story for any of the ABC O&O’s six o’clock broadcasts. I mean, it’s pretty much the same thing. He’s asking one federal employee what somebody in another federal agency might know about a situation that is happening in another country which doesn’t really have any direct effect on our shores and limited direct involvement of our national government.

Otherwise, I’ve referenced it in a previous comment to this blog which is why I have the 30 seconds isolated, but previously I’ve commented upon the media’s role in this country’s intelligence network and as an illustration, I pointed toward this excerpt of a Defense Department briefing starring Dick Cheney and Colin Powell from ’91.

Let’s see, gas going over four dollars a gallon, the economy still sucks like it’s 1979, the southern border is a war zone, Mo Mo is about to win his war, the rest of the middle east is ready to go up, Japan is a disaster zone, and what does our President say? Frak you pathetic peasants, I’m going to Rio!

And there is Jay Carney, making many of us long for the days of Gibbs. These people are just too much.

So in the new era of Obama, anyone want take bets on when he tries the ultimate executive order of making himself President for Life?

Except for the bit about it actually being Jay Carney’s job….

do yourself a favor, block NBC, ABC, CBS and their affiliates from your channel guide. I did two years ago and the sheer cringeworthy sound of Brian Williams or Couric make my skin crawl. Similar to what Obowmao’s voice does to me.

You notice (as I have noted in other threads) a significant drop in the number of anti-American leftists attempting to attack us Conservatives huh? It has to be getting very difficult since they have used up their cashe of personal slander and the Left has never been able to debate fairly in the arena of ideas

Did I mention that this Regime (i.e. The Current Administration of the USA) is an EPIC FAILURE.
    Bring on Obamagate

We have just crossed over to the alternate universe.

Until now, I thought it was just a concept on “Fringe!”

    Love Fringe!

What a novel approach. A press secretary who says “I’m not telling.”

Carney’s job is to give updates about the White House, the President and expound upon administration policy, it’s not to provide breaking news from another country.

Perhaps if there had been some kind of official statement or some upper channels communications, but that’s not the question that Tapper asked. Instead, he asked “what is going on over there? We have not heard the latest from the NRC or the Japanese government… apparently there has been something that has happened in the last few hours?” Sure, Carney might have handled the question a little better, but Tapper wasn’t asking about anything from the White House, he was looking for breaking news about an event occurring in a foreign country and for that kind of info, CNN would be a better source.

It has now become prerequisite that White House Press Secretary be a Wise Ass.
