For its status as the “best restaurant in the world,” Noma’s been having a not-so-stellar week: first, there was that food poisoning snafu, and now, Eater reports that it might even lose its Best Of The World status.
A tipster tells the food site that Noma might be knocked off its top spot on the San Pellegrino Top 50 Best Restaurants In The World list, tumbling to number 2 in the rankings. (What a horrible downfall.) Taking its place: Les Créations de Narisawa, a Japanese restaurant ranked #12 last year in the same list, but ranked #1 in San Pellegrino’s recently-created Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list.
So what might replace the ant/foraged sea beans/lichens/pale birchwood Danishness? Narisawa, recently granted two stars by Michelin, is a French restaurant (in Tokyo, of all places), whose head chef, Yoshihiro Narisawa, has studied under Joel Robuchon and Frédy Girardet. If this rumor turns out to be true, we anticipate that all of the overly ambitious stages will converge on Narisawa, to subsequently make its patrons ill after overworking themselves.
