‘Easiest Mark in Human History’: Trump Torched For Claiming Putin Told Him He Won 2020 Election — If Not For Mail Voting

Critics of President Donald Trump pounced after he used “smart” Russian President Vladimir Putin to back up his rigged election claims and lack of trust in mail-in voting.

Following his summit with Putin in Alaska, Trump sat down with Fox News’ Sean Hannity and at one point he claimed that Putin is just as skeptical of mail-in voting as he is.

“Vladimir Putin, smart guy, said you can’t have an honest election with mail-in voting,” the president said. “He said there’s not a country in the world that uses it now.”

Trump has long criticized absentee voting, though he’s taken part in the practice himself and pushed supporters to vote early by mail in 2024. The president still maintains that the 2020 presidential election was rigged in former President Joe Biden’s favor, though there has never been evidence of the kind of widespread fraud he often claims there was.

Putin has been president since 2000 and he’s long faced allegations of rigged elections in his country. In 2024, he officially won 87% of the vote.

Critics were quick to mock Trump for using Putin as a voice of authority to back his critiques of mail-in voting and desire for election reform.

“Putin must laugh at how easy it is to play Trump. I have no idea if Trump plays poker but I assume if he does, he’s the mark at every game he’s in,” former Meet the Press moderator Chuck Todd wrote on X in reaction to Trump’s Putin talk.

“Truly the easiest mark in human history,” author Max Fisher wrote.

Others similarly accused Trump of playing into Putin’s hand, while some also pointed out Putin’s own controversial history when it comes to fair and free elections.

Some MAGA supporters were fine with Putin being cited by the president as long as Trump’s promised “election reform” is coming.
