‘Kinda Stupid to Do That, Isn’t It?’ View Hosts Have Field Day Over Saucy George Santos Ethics Report Revelations
The subject was not teased in the intro, but when ABC’s The View began its broadcast on Thursday, co-host Whoopi Goldberg knew exactly what she wanted to talk about: The House Ethics Committee report on Rep. George Santos (R-NY.)
Co-host Sunny Hostin said they’d have to talk about it during the show on Friday since the news had broken just minutes before they went on the air, but Whoopi said, “I mean, we can, but I’m here now,” calling the report “kinda nutty.” Co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin chimed in that the contents of the report amounted to “television gold,” while Hostin described the report as “juicy.”
The report, which was filed early on Thursday, included several damning revelations into how Santos spent his campaign funds. Spoiler: He did not use them for campaigning! According to the report, the clinically dishonest Santos spent the money on personal expenses including trips to Atlantic City, Botox, and an OnlyFans account. Which co-host Joy Behar observed: “It’s kinda stupid to do that, isn’t it?”
Indeed, Joy. But, as Hostin pointed out, these are ethics violations, which do not constitute breaking the law. (Separately, Santos has been indicted on 23 federal counts of fraud, conspiracy, and falsifying records, among other things and has pleaded not guilty to all of them.) Still, this kind of behavior had co-host Sara Haines asking:
How is he not fired?? I echo what I said yesterday: At any job where you go on OnlyFans and swipe your corporate card, get Botox and swipe their corporate — you are out. In fact, you get one box and you’re escorted by security! Like, I don’t get it.
Then Behar reminded her exactly why Santos has survived several expulsion attempts:
You get it. He’s a Republican and they want his vote. That’s all they care about.
After the report broke and chairman of the House Ethics Committee Rep. Michael Guest (R-MS) announced his intention to move to expel Santos, the congressman announced that he would not seek reelection in 2024. Which doesn’t mean he can’t be expelled, but the Republicans still have a razor-thin majority and need his vote, so we have likely not seen the last of George Anthony Devolder Santos.
