Brian Kilmeade Defends Flynn’s Lying to FBI Because He Was on Vacation in Dominican Republic

Fox & Friends is a continued source of political programming in support of President Donald Trump and current and former associates in legal trouble. Take for example today’s curious explanation of Trump’s former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn, who has pleaded guilty for lying to FBI officials.

On Monday, Special Counsel Robert Mueller released court filings that demonstrated the nearly dozen times that Flynn had not been truthful to FBI agents amidst growing and baseless criticism from conservative media outlets that Flynn was a victim of entrapment. Since the newly released documents undermine any serious claim of entrapment (a theory that was significantly promoted on Monday’s Fox & Friends), co-host Brian Kilmeade pivoted to another reason for Flynn’s forgetful nature that led to his guilty plea: he was on vacation.

Kilmeade opened by saying that he was “fascinated” to learn that Flynn “was actually on vacation in the Dominican Republic getting set to join a brand new administration, a key position to the security of the country.” Flynn then “got a call from Ambassador Kislyak,” which Kilmeade sort of glossed over because, according to the released documents, Flynn said he didn’t remember.

But in Kilmeade’s esteem, a key point in this is that Flynn’s dishonesty to the FBI (to which he has pleaded guilty) is the fact that Flynn was on vacation. “If anyone has gone to the Caribbean it’s erratic,” Kilmeade offered, adding “If you want to cool down and cut off you don’t know what’s happening in the news.”
