Charles Krauthammer Responds to Mark Levin: I’ve Been ‘Exposed’
Wednesday afternoon, Fox’s Bret Baier forced his guest Charles Krauthammer to sit through audio of accusations against his conservative credibility by talk radio host Mark Levin. When he finally got a chance to respond, Krauthammer joked, “I stand exposed as the longest mole of liberals and Democrats in the conservative movement in the history of the republic.”
Levin had spoken out against Krauthammer and columnist George Will Tuesday evening as faux-conservative intellectuals who have “not only surrendered” but “taken out the long knives and tried to destroy the handful of conservatives we have in Washington, D.C.”
In response to Levin’s disgust that he once worked for Democrat Walter Mondale, Krauthammer said, “I will remind you that the sainted Ronald Reagan started out as a very strong supporter of FDR.” He said he found the whole thing “kind of amusing” and that his only “excuse” for past transgressions is that he was “young.”
Krauthammer also attempted to explain his objections to Sen. Ted Cruz’s tactics, which prompted Levin’s attacks in the first place. “The objection I had to what Cruz was doing was he took them down a cul-de-sac in terms of tactics,” Krauthammer said, and that he “implied unfairly” that anyone who disagreed with him didn’t really oppose Obamacare.
“If you are going to cast aspersions on the people who fought every step the way,” Krauthammer concluded, “every twist and turn of this Obamacare along the way, you ought to be a little bit humble about it and at least recognize their honesty and sincerity in a way that he did not.”
