Chuck Todd: Dems ‘Activist Base,’ Deflated by Obamacare, Demanded Nuclear Option
On Thursday, the U.S. Senate passed a rule to reform the filibuster process which will prevent Republicans from blocking President Barack Obama’s judicial nominees. Shortly after the president spoke to the press about this development, NBC News Chief White House Correspondent Chuck Todd revealed that the Democratic “activist base,” upset about the Affordable Care Act’s roll-out, wanted Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) to take this move for some time and will be buoyed by it.
“Right now, don’t forget, the base of the Democratic Party – particularly the activist base – not in a good place, not feeling good about health care,” Todd told MSNBC anchor Andrea Mitchell.

“This has been something that many in the activist base of the Democratic Party have been wanting Harry Reid to do for a while,” he continued. “So, I think this is also about a moment of reassurance to the Democratic base who is feeling a little bit, you know, under attack and under siege a little bit because of how poorly the health care rollout is going.”
