CNN’s Kaitlan Collins Says Trump Officials Texted Her To Ask if Bongino Had Shown Up To Work
CNN’s Kaitlan Collins reported on Monday that White House officials texted her earlier in the day to ask if FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino had shown up to work.
Bongino made news last week after he played hooky on Friday in protest of Attorney General Pam Bondi’s handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files. Bondi had teased a revelatory document dump regarding the crimes and associations of the late child sex trafficker. In February, she told Fox News that Epstein’s client list was “sitting on my desk right now.” But last week, Bondi’s Department of Justice said there was no client list and there would be no bombshell. Predictably, this triggered outrage among conservatives, who had long hoped Trump, a former Epstein associate, would reveal all.
Amid Bongino’s no-show at work on Friday, Collins reported that the FBI’s number two was considering resigning if Bondi remained as attorney general. FBI Director Kash Patel was also reportedly displeased with Bondi and was also allegedly mulling resigning from his post.
On Monday, Bongino showed up to work and was “in a better headspace,” according to CNN’s Kristen Holmes.
Hours later on AC360, Collins joined Anderson Cooper, who asked, “Is it clear where Deputy FBI Director Dan Bongino– his career is headed tonight?”
“No,” Collins replied, before noting that members of Trump’s White House had been texting her to find out the lowdown on Bongino. “It’s not clear even to White House officials, Anderson, who were texting each other and texting me this morning asking, you know, whether or not they had figured out if he had shown up to work today because it was still an open question in Washington this morning if he was going to be back at the FBI today.”
Collins went on to say that Bongino’s relationship with other Trump officials “has deteriorated so much that there are officials inside the White House who have not spoken to Dan Bongino in days.”
“I was told the president was very angry with Dan Bongino,” she added.
