CNN’s New Day Completely Destroys Fox News Coverage of January 6th Hearing With Brutal Montage

Frequent viewers of New Day know that the CNN morning show doesn’t shy away from media criticism; in fact, it embraces it. This was on display Wednesday morning following the first day of remarkably compelling testimony by Capitol Police before a Congressional Select Committee investigation of the events of January 6th.

For those who missed it, Tuesday’s hearing was filled with emotional accounts from officers retelling their experiences of getting physically attacked by Trump supporters, and many of them said they believed that they were going to lose their lives on that day.

“The hearing, the first hearing of the House select committee investigating what happened, also featured new, harrowing video of the violence that day,” John Berman explained in the setup, before pivoting to “violence that some would like you to believe never happened.”

What followed was a montage of a dozen or so clips of Republican members of Congress and Fox News personalities dismissing, deriding, and undermining the events of that day, comments that were 180 degrees opposite of what the police officers revealed during their harrowing accounts.

“No reasonable person thinks that what happened on January 6th was as Biden said, the worst attack on the Capitol since the Civil War,” said Fox News’ Laura Ingraham.

“Since 6th is being used as a pretext to strip millions of Americans of their core constitutional right,” said Tucker Carlson, before adding “We’re witnessing the most aggressive crackdown on civil liberties in our lifetime.”

“Nancy Pelosi’s January 6th commission and literally it has one mission and one mission only, oh, let’s see if we can impeach and smear and slander Donald Trump one more time and, of course, the GOP one more time on national television,” said Sean Hannity.

“The theatrics were intended to produce an emotional reaction, logic, and facts be damned,” Ingraham said before introducing a curious bit in which she gave “awards” for what she deemed the most performative participants in Tuesday’s hearing.

New Day viewers also saw Republican officials dismissing the politics of the event during Fox News interviews, but also in press conferences and on the House floor. So, to be fair, the segment wasn’t entirely focused on Fox News.

Coming out of the segment, Berman said “I don’t know how you can watch the hearing yesterday with the testimony from those four officers, the compelling accounts of what they went through during that day, since that day, and then go on TV last night, like what’s her name, Laura Ingraham did and claim it was an act.”

“There’s one person acting in that scenario,” he concluded, “and it’s her.”
