Dem Rep. Defends ‘Hands Up, Don’t Shoot’ from ‘Conservative Entertainment Complex’

Democratic Congressman Hakeem Jeffries was one of several Congressional Black Caucus members who took to the House floor Monday night and made the “hands up, don’t shoot” gesture in solidarity with Ferguson protesters. Some conservatives didn’t like the message this sends, and on MSNBC tonight, Chris Hayes brought up the criticism to Jeffries.

He specifically cited Bill O’Reilly saying the gesture means they believe white cops are just killing black people left and right. Jeffries said, “It’s not surprising that the conservative entertainment complex would completely misunderstand the point.”

He told Hayes that he and other members of the CBC took action to “show solidarity, to make it clear to young people all across the country that we hear their voices.”
