DNC Chair Tom Perez Responds to Democratic Criticism of Lawsuit: ‘Our Democracy Is at Risk’
The DNC has filed a lawsuit against Russia, the Trump campaign, and Wikileaks alleging conspiracy to sway the election, and some Democrats aren’t exactly too happy about it.
Congresswoman Jackie Speier called it “ill-conceived” on CNN today, and a spokesperson for Senator Claire McCaskill called it a “silly distraction.”
DNC Chair Tom Perez appeared with MSNBC’s Chris Hayes tonight to defend the lawsuit, saying “there is no accountability for what the Russians did.”
He even called the Trump White House “Putin’s poodle” and insisted this is about patriotism and not partisanship.
Hayes brought up the criticism specifically from McCaskill and asked Perez for his response. The DNC chair said, “We can walk and chew gum.”
He elaborated:
“I love Senator McCaskill. We’ve invested in her race, we’re going to continue to invest in her race because she’s a great senator. But I’ll tell you, I disagree for the simple reason that our democracy is at risk here. We have to make sure that the elections coming up in November are fair. And they invaded us the last time, they hacked the DNC, they tried to influence the outcome of the election. There’s no accountability in the White House.”
